Good beginner SPS?

I can't seem to find a red planet acro. Much less one as cheap as what was stated above. They are so pretty I'm sure I will get one one day.

The prices above that were quoted would have to be from hobbyists near you. You won't find that price from any vendor. But also at that price I'd expect them to be small even from most hobbyists.

I could probably get you good sized chunky frags of the 3 aforementioned corals, shipped for around $150

Do you have a local hobbyist group/club? Most folks will give some of these away at frag swaps. Some are too nice to give away, but you never know. You REALLY have to look out for Reef Herpies from frag swaps, so be diligent.

POCILLOPORA... if you really want to try out SPS. This stony never failed on me, it even survived fresh water dip for 5 minutes. I returned mine to the sea when they start popping up everywhere.

I have a hard time to keep them .. especially the pink type STN n rtn .. I tried 3 time , before and after tank mature .. if fact collect from ocean purple green do survive well until monti cover it

Mine were all wild collected (this coral growing like weed here in my place, they can form a 10' x 10' multiple colonies from a softball size up to a 3 feet across mother colony). Purple, brown, pink and very seldom the green polyp. I kept all (except the green one) but popping everywhere (mostly the brown one) is not fun. They really meant to be at the sea :D

So I've been browsing a bit on these strains. Any suggestions on vendors for these at a decent price but quality product? I don't want anything inferior.

If you have a local forum post a want thread for these corals. Or if there is a reef club ask around.
Check for swaps as well.

As jda mentioned you can also check with reefers selling in the classifieds on Reef Forums. Do a search for those coral names in the sales section and you can come up with reefers names who sold and shipped them in the past..............you can contact them.

The forums also have want to buy threads you can post in.

Yellow/green Tort is another very hardy green acro that is inexpensive if you can't find a green slimer.

Online vendors are going to charge you 2-3 times the prices I mentioned. Be patient and you'll find these corals.

Careful on hydnophora though. They are a very aggressive coral and will sting anything and everything around it.

Pm sent.

Hydnophora is not SPS. It is more like Caulestera/Trumpet and Favites and is really aggressive and can put out sweepers and sting and kill corals around it. I would avoid it at all costs... there are very few who have it that don't regret it over time.

If you see somebody online who has a few frags that you want, ask them if they happen to have any of the staples... most folks have a red planet, slimer or something similar that they just did not think to post or that somebody online would want. Be cool about it and you might be surprised what you get back.

I really only have the room for peaceful SPS as my tank is full of LPS, Softie, and a nice size carpet anemone. I'm looking to put a few SPS throughout but they can't be aggresive.

Sorry, but that is total BS on the size of the frags from hobbyists, most of the time they are huge, because they need to clear room in their tank.

I just posted a link of $15 frags of a reefer currently selling frags and shipping. These threads with starter type corals show up every month on propagated sales forums.

====================================

To people looking for these corals..........be a little patient ......they are plentiful. jda and I have mentioned all kinds of avenues to get these starter corals. If you have no patience and don't care about price then buy from an on line vendor..........that's fine, it's just going to cost a lot more and in most cases they'll be small compared to what a reefer offers.

Keep tabs on your local reef forums. There are regional city forums on R2R and similar forums. Post a thread you're looking for these corals.

Where do you search for the frag swaps?

I posted the whole list with past swaps as these will turn over and probably happen again in 2018 around similar dates. Forums have Announcement or news sections with these schedules. I'm sure you can do a google search for swap lists and find them as well.

Some of these swaps are huge with many reefers selling frags.

Some swaps will use the reef trader sites where you can pick and choose frags and pre order them-----
