;Wideyed Thank goodness it's muscle pain. Take it easy, heat and some ibuprofen might help.I've had back surgery a few years ago for ruptured disks. This is not the same. This is muscle in mid to lower on the side not spinal, thank God....

Sports Doc told me, First 24 hours ICE then you do Heat. BUT, If you Live with back pain you find what works for you .10 minutes of heat then 10 minutes of cold is what my mother-in-law does. She says it works wonders.

There's muscle pain, generally relieved with NSAIDS. And discogenic pain, due to degeneration of the disc, with volume loss, fluid loss, annular tears, disc protrusions, and marginal osteophytes; this too responds to anti-inflammatories, typically, although it's chronic and will always recur. And then there's neurologic pain, when a segment of disc extrudes and presses directly on an exiting nerve root; sounds like you've had some experience with that, as has my wife; not something I ever want to experience myself.I've had back surgery a few years ago for ruptured disks.
