My FIL loved those cars! I didn't know him at the time, but he had several of them....maybe because they were the worst cars ever made? Corvair was also my husband's first car, probably a handoff from his father.

The Corvair was introduced before Chevrolet had the issue worked out, but was highly innovative (and unsafe). For example, the early models had a swing arm suspension (very ungood) which, when combined with the rear-engine placement, it had the potential to create steering issues, etc. However, the Corvair also had a boxter, air-cooled, aluminum engine (very good) that was underpowered for a sports car, but was very lightweight and durable. These engines would later be scavenged for use on john boats, airboats, and even experimental aircraft. Another unique design feature of these engines was the fact that they rotated in the opposite direction of a standard US-made engine. Almost bought one, almost built an airboat. Thank God for unanswered prayers.

The engines could be scavenged to recycle the aluminum and the rest crushed. This made them quickly disappear from places people typically find cars to restore as antiques.
My nephew had one as well.

My kitchen faucet needs new batteries. I am debating getting new batteries or a new faucet. I have never managed to figure out how to work the thing. It constantly turns off when I dont want it too. Or I could plug a 9v wall wart in behind the dishwasher and do away with the batteries.

Perhaps I will go and see what Home Depot has on clearance.

Good morning! Fishing beyond amazing this morning. It was more catching than fishing. I love days like this. I got my tank and sump cleaned yesterday. Today I have to break down the old stand and mix saltwater. Be safe and stay happy!

Perhaps I am being a negative Nellie but a survey of options this morning shows there is no where to easily get a fish tank larger than a 75 gallons unless you have it made. I have had the desire to upgrade my 75 to something bigger for a while. A Red Sea costing a couple of thousand has no appeal to me at all.
I found one viable candidate in my search. An SCA 150 for $995 for just the tank. I could build the rest myself.

I don't think that bodes well for the future of this hobby.

Good morning everyone! I guess I haven't said hello in a while. I have had to return to doing work and other boring stuff in the mornings.
Yesterday I did my duty as a biologist and surprisingly was able to repair the broken wing on a migrating Monarch. Even more amazing is that it was actually able to fly away when I was done. I also managed to spend $100 on an R2R sale about 20 minutes after telling myself that I absolutely wasn't going to buy anything. I was forced to follow the SP1187 rule and after thinking about buying them 3x I headed to checkout. Have a great day!

It's not pretty, but trying to hold a butterfly still with it's wings open while gluing a mini-splint (card stock) on it is not easy. I glued the first three splints to my finger.
