Got a crab. How bad?

I've haddecorators with some small and sedentary fish without issue.

That's the problem with crustaceans -- They can go rogue. Lots of people with pistol shrimp have no issue, but they can sometimes go rogue and kill their goby and go on a tear in the tank too.

Porcelain crabs are filter feeders that get about 1" across. They have specialized filtering whiskers (maybe not whiskers, but im not sure what to call them) for filtering particulate out of the water. They're harmless... And reef safe! Yet they have claws, and over my 14 years in the hobby I've seen pictures of more than a few munching on gobies they caught sleeping.

Emeralds are great for bubble algae -- But some people get unlucky, and theirs eat corals, and go after fish as they get larger.

I'm not saying you're wrong -- because If the answer was as easy as right or wrong, there wouldn't be so much gray area with crabs. And it's a shame, because everyone has a crab or two they'd like, either due to function (emeral/Acro) or looks (Porcelain/Pom Pom).

Gotta agree with decorator crab ... and spider crabs, at least here in Long Island Sound, are decorators. Some go whole hog, tacking anything not bolted down onto their shells, while others stick a strand of algae or bryzoan on top of their heads and call it a day.

I've got a tiny decorator (maybe 1/4"?) in my tank that has been spotted eating Bryopsis!

Lol, I dont get it.... what was funny
With your comment about crabs, "no true crab should be trusted they're all opportunists." I, for some reason, imagined a post apocalyptic world where humanity is fighting desperately against the crab uprising. Sorry, I'll leave now. I really thought it was hilarious.

I thought a crab was a crab annoying in what ever form ! Except a lobster that looks a lot like a crab ! Now I don't trust lobsters either. My Blue lobster loved eating my snails !
