Got expensive tastes?

What??? I will need a bodyguard and then a divorce lawyer .... I rather buy a new tank with the $7k

Exactly, see that makes sense to me as $7K would buy a pretty nice custom tank, which I could load with a wide variety of fish, corals, etc. instead of simply spending that on one fish.

Think of it from an investment perspective though. Most likely those first runs of cb that are sold will go to people also trying to breed them. If you got lucky with a pair of them and everything went as planned and you were able to breed them and get babies..... say by that time they drop in price to 5k... it would only take successfully raising 3 babies to hit your break even point and every run after that is a huge profit margin.

That's assuming you could even get them breeding. Rare Dwarf Angels are among the most difficult to breed. Think of how much money Biota and other companies have invested in learning how to just breed Coral Beauty and Flame Angels (which are far more common and hardy). I just don't buy the whole breeders angle as it simply isn't realistic. Obviously a person can do what they want with their money, I just find it hard to justify a single fish at this price when I can buy a used Mustang GT in decent shape for the same price or a brand new motorcycle. When you think of it like that, it gives one pause.

This is the second one they've offered lately.

They had one on Friday that sold within the first hour or so ... but the market for seven-thousand-dollar fish is not large.

(Hey - at least the shipping's free, right?)

So there obviously is a market for such fish. To each his own. Just too bad all of us commoners only get to see it in photos, or someone else’s tank if we’re lucky.

Fish prices are crazy...

I was working as a "jobber", selling fish to LFS in the late 80's and early 90's.

I've seen it all... from Resplendent Angels which, btw... were less than $100 at one time to Wrought Iron Butterflies which were around $300

Some fish are astronomically priced today which were relatively cheap back in the day, but some fish have come waaaay down in price.

My first Asfur Angel I purchased for my personal collection at $400 wholesale. Much cheaper nowadays...

Oh and re: Clarion Angels... they used to be widely available and cheap. And... I didn't ever do it, BUT I heard of some people who would go down to Guaymas/San Carlos (wasn't me) and collected their own Clarions... CAUTION: Nowadays it will get you a million years in a Mexican Prison so don't DO IT.

Or you could bribe the police for a few hundred bucks and leave with it. Still cheaper than $7.5K :P

Just saw this on fb...

I cringe and worry when I spend $30 on a fish. My Yellow Tang is the most expensive fish I have retail but between a sale at the LFS and cashing my stores reward points I paid $25 for it.

Exactly. The program is going to catch up eventually. I hope at least....
Captive bred is supposed to lower the price in the long run. But short term hype is understandable.
