GoVols: Red Sea S-400

Okay, totally off topic but I have been considering going bare bottom with my tank as my flow upgrade has created dunes and bare spots in my sandbed anyway. How do you bare-bottom guys keep the coralline off the bottom glass?

Just got home from our oldest daughter's /got to visit the grand kids and we watched the LSU game.

There is no stupid question, and I'll try to help.

My wife hates coralline on the back wall and keep it in check with the SS side of the Flipper.

The best shot would be to buy an Royal urchin. The spine urchin's can move rocks and grow real fast.

If you can keep your algae to little or non, an Royal urchin can and will consume a ton of coralline.

If you want coralline on your back wall. Then toss out the urchin (thought) and keep the coralline scraped back on the BB floor.

If your go BB and you want to know how to keep it nice and clean, then feel free to to ask.

We don't. It is a fight you cannot win.
I bought an urchin who keeps it more or less stable.

I really like how clean your tank looks in this thread, definitely a different look than mine, which has coralline over most of the back wall and now forming on the areas of exposed bottom glass. But I guess I have to be realistic about my inherent laziness. Thank goodness for the Flipper. That little gem is the only reason I don't have any coralline on the front and side glass anymore. I can't use it on the back glass as my tank is up against a wall. I know very little about urchins but I worry about how they supposedly knock stuff around. I have quite a few new acro frags in my tank right now and I worry they would suffer from the urchin's bulldozer effect. Once the frags encrust I imagine the urchin's impact would be less. But, as I said, I know next to nothing about urchins and I may be worrying needlessly. I'll see what I can find out about them. (I know they would be a hit with my kids since they look just like Ghibli's Soot Sprites).

Tuxedo urchins, no idea of the proper name, they steal bits but are way less destructive

This is possibly the best idea to clean your bare bottoms. I got this after Freddie suggested and it is a great tool. I just love it.

Well that shot was taken when I first brought it home, and way before this build thread.

It either had brown jelley / or quick tissue recession from mishandling. Either way I got lucky, and we got it to stop ;Stop

Well,
Last night the hammer tucked in it's polyps and I took some quick shots.

First shot / tissue loss with dead skeleton and live rock in yellow

Rest of shots show the growth since way back.

The hammer is re-growing back over the dead skeletal area, but the entire hammer is growing in all area's including a TON in height.

Hope you guys can see what I can, and just wanted to share.
