Dry real reef rock, live sand. Cycled using Dr. Tim's (for whatever that is worth, but does seem to help get things going quickly if you follow the instructions precisely).
Other than that, I was just steadfast with keeping an eye on water quality and used good equipment that makes it easy to make quick and easy adjustments.
Not to say I haven't had any problems. I did loose one acro (RTN) when I was having an issue with Alk swings. I hadn't installed my KalkRx yet, so after I did that made my Alk stable. I now hold 9.5 steady.
I have had some great growth in the last 2-3 months. My Green Slimer, Orange Setosa, Blue Tort, Saphire Mili, Pon. Birds Nest and others have all at least doubled in size. Other Acros have grown a bit slower, but they were pretty small when I got them. I am happy and plan on picking up some more soon.
