i didn't know where too post this , so I will post it here ..
While watching BBC news this morning there came a sad story which I'm sure will at some point affect us all , scientists have now discovered that an area of the Great Barrier Reef , some two thousand miles square has bleached out ... that's an area the size of Italy .... !!!!! I find this news some what disturbing .. how can anybody deny global warming ( Trump!!!!) is happening ... the evidence is all around us .. when will this world wake up and see and realize and admit we have a problem ..and it's time to save our planet and all the diversity of life on it ... to be honest makes me ashamed too be human !!!!!
Rant over !!!!!!!!!!!!

To be honest yes we have global warming and personally i dont deny it. But what make me wonder is one other thing that went under radar. We all know Fukushima disaster few years back ? Well noone said what leached in sea and we all know sea currents are passing by all that coridor ? It is interesting thing that barrier reef colapses so fast for last 3 years but who will admit like yea it leaked from us ( Japan ) and probablly couse all that die off.

p.s. i dont want to be wiki leaks hehehe but it is really strange that die off last 2-3 years and disaster hitted that time

This train wreck has been coming for 100 years since people started using the combustion engine. The human race has very little ability to police itself and say WE are the problem, We need to stop burning fossil fuels like a drunk sailor. Humans say I am making money on selling cars and I like having lights in my home and a warm house when its cold outside. Why should I sacrifice my comfort for something that is going on a world away from me. This is and has always been very hard to convince the human race to do the right thing.

That's sad. The GBR is absoulty beautiful. If we keep destroying the ocean then we all die its that simple. I am sure that when we bombed Japan a lot of that radiation went in to the ocean causeing massive devastation but on the other hand that was somthing that had to be done. I hope that some how this can be turned around. But it will take more then just one country. If you look at the county's around the GRB you would see that they are destroying the ocean more then anyone else. China for example the biggest factory county dumping all the waste chemicals into the ocean. I feel that if EVERYONE starts to do there part then we all can make a change before it to late. This is my opinion on the matter.

it won't change .... so long as everyone points the finger somewhere else , America blames china and Australia, china blames America , Russians blame everyone so forth and so on ... fossil fuels , oil , coal , are such big industries who wants too put all them people out of work , there are so many ways we can provide electricity without using fossil fuels , sun , wind , water ... but it's too late .. it's not our generation that will suffer .. but our children.. and our children's children... we do not deserve this planet we live on .. but at the end of the day when the human race has become extinct.. the earth will heal

I could of not said it any better then this.

Like said above, pointing the finger does no good for anyone. There hasn't been a direct cause identified in the GBR bleaching event. I believe it's a combination of factors. This thread could turn really negative really fast if we allow it. We all have to do our part to make this world a better place.

Totally agree ... It was never my intention too point fingers anywhere .. we are all responsible for this world

I cannot even explain in words how deeply upsetting this kind of thing is, not just for me, not just for our generation, or even our species as a whole.... We're talking about ALL life on earth. The sole reason we even exist, it's all thanks to them. And how do we show our appreciation for life? Drive it to extinction.

Corals are some of the oldest organisms, MILLIONS of years of evolution perfected, and gone in a century if we keep up our current ways. Sharks, too, here since the dinosaurs, survived mass extinction, we'll wipe em out in no time.

Sure we're capable of "higher intelligence", but we're capable of even more destruction, emense greed, just plain evil. I really hope we can learn to appreciate the reefs before it's too late.

Corals have survived millions of years with much higher CO2 levels and far higher temperatures than what is being experienced currently. Please don't misunderstand, I am not arguing that the climate of the planet is not changing nor that man doesn't have a hand in it, however, unfortunately I think the long term perspective and the resiliency of life on the planet is under estimated. Further as this has become a business and close to a dogma, all hard evidence that contradicts obviously flawed models, and all arguments that suggest that the whole picture is not fully understood, i.e. solar intensity is branded heresy.
That is not science, nor is it helpful to truly understand the problem, nor does it lend itself to achieving realistic and palatable solutions.

Life on earth was around hundreds of millions of years before us and will be after us. While sad it is happening in our lifetime - and certainly preventable - die off is a part of our world. Appreciate things while they are (and you are) here.

Although man has only really been around for the last 250,000 years or so it's only the last hundred years or so that mans impact on this earth can really be seen , the worlds population has doubled if not tripled in that time , since the industrial revolution , the invention of steam engine , then the burning of fossil fuels , and our over populations of the land ..it's hard too see the real impact we have on planet earth , only the next few generations will have too live with our mistakes , I hope they are smarter than us and learn too love this wonderful world we share together

I agree with this.

Rising CO2 in the atmosphere would allow plants to thrive and produce O2. The water temps rising is the crap we dump into the ocean. If there is one thing we could stop tomorrow is dumping waste and chemicals. Radiation from Fukushima would also have great repercussions. I think with future technology we could find ways to help filter the ocean just like we've created filters to turn saltwater into freshwater. We just need to be proactive.

My twitter name is Global Warmer so is name of my phone..is that bad?
What can I say.. I'm a 'denier'. Science just isn't there.
Sorry to all all who 'believe'.

I always read the original research when it comes to global warming. When the first reports of coral bleaching on the GBR came out, the research stated that bleaching was observed on 70% of the reefs on the GBR. It was commonly reported in the popular press as "70% of the GBR has been bleached". The difference between those two statements is enormous. It was blatantly dishonest or incompetent reporting.

That being said, we do need to be careful with the environment.

I agree. Dumping, pollution, littering, etc I see as a far more important issue to focus our energy and capital and on. For one, it has a more measurable and obvious negative impact on the planet, and equally as important, it can marginally change the environment without bankrupting the economy and everyone can win more feesibly.

This whole "climate change" (notice the narrative has changed to include all weather patterns that can be blamed on humans, not just warming) is BIG business making select people VERY wealthy.

There is no doubt that we are destroying our planet, but let's focus on more marginally impactful means of improving it. We don't have unlimited resources/capital.
