Great barrier reef disaster.!

There is no evidence we could change the temperature even a fraction of a degree if we actually tried. No proof. Zero zilch nada. It's all theory. It's all computer models. And you know who programs those. Same guy who claimed to invent the internet.
We are not even polluting it a scratch. No evidence whatsoever. And strong capitalist nations that have the lowest environmental impact and damage. Proof for that as well.
A sun blast more than likely bleached the Great Barrier Reef and you can't do anything about that. Oh and the ozone 'hole' is closing up..again. And glaciers are actually growing. Proof of that.
Sorry environmentalists all you stand for is actually a hoax.

I completely, and whole heartily respect the skepticism here.

In general it seems recently the discussion is not whether or not the climate is changing, but to what degree human activity causes climate change, which is in itself a faulty approach because we can't measure on an untouched earth as a true to life control variable for comparison. As I understand it the old argument about the antarctic growing while the arctic shrinks is now dated b/c the antarctic is actually now losing mass as well, and even with the growth of years past(Record growth between 2014-2016) the mass is deficient compared to the loss in the arctic.

The reality is we'll let numbers, math, and models provide for us a wide variety of creature comforts/toys, but the minute any new data contrary to our taught beliefs are presented it's dismissed in favor of a faulty belief. New data doesn't always warrant immediate acceptance, but preconceived beliefs do deserve to be dumped in light of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

The question in my mind is not why is the climate changing, but rather how are we going to adapt to the changes in our climate regardless of causality? Sounds like an opportunity to leave the antiquated coal industry behind in centuries bygone where it belongs, save those reserves for when/if we need them as a cheap high energy source, and work on our future tech to diversify our energy security.

While global policy makers argue over the why (visual approximation provided below) I should save up for a dredger and crew over the next few decades so I can charge them top dollar for their inaction/silliness lol.

I pose my opinion with a happy heart (a bit of a devil's advocate mixed in for good order).

Anyway, its a disappointment to see a reef bleach out like that regardless of the reason.

Happy reefin' y'all!

i didn't know where too post this , so I will post it here ..
While watching BBC news this morning there came a sad story which I'm sure will at some point affect us all , scientists have now discovered that an area of the Great Barrier Reef , some two thousand miles square has bleached out ... that's an area the size of Italy .... !!!!! I find this news some what disturbing .. how can anybody deny global warming ( Trump!!!!) is happening ... the evidence is all around us .. when will this world wake up and see and realize and admit we have a problem ..and it's time to save our planet and all the diversity of life on it ... to be honest makes me ashamed too be human !!!!!
Rant over !!!!!!!!!!!!

I will tell you why I have an issue with global warming (which is now called climate change by the way). Just in your post you state "...that's an area the size of Italy...". This from GBRMPA, the official source on everything concerning the GBR...

"As we saw last year bleaching and mortality can be highly variable across the 344,000 square kilometre Marine Park — an area bigger than Italy."

So you see, the whole GBR is bigger than Italy and not the bleaching area. Now I will put money on it that you did not misquote the program but that the program was deliberately vague when they mentioned this and are quite happy for the fallacy to grow legs.

When I was but knee high I remember the crown starfish was going to destroy the reef and there was going to be nothing left but memories by the year 2000. Now 17 odd years after the GBR Armageddon we talking about bleaching the size of Italy! So all up I take everything they say with a pinch of salt. I can also just add that these people will never tell you about the regrowth also happening on the GBR in areas 'devastated' by bleaching a few years back as it just does not fit their agenda.

Like most things in life it is always good to follow the money if you after some truth, look at who is making money out of this scare and you will find you looking at a self fulfilling prophecy when it comes to researching telling us how bad it is. They need it to be bad to get funding so they can keep on telling us how bad it is. So they start fiddling with tables and cut years off trends when it does not fit, they change decimals and round up or down depending on the final result they want. We have seen it all here in Australia and when they get questioned the response is usually a sneer at the deniers rather than answering the question.

I don't deny global warming in the slightest. The planet is getting warmer and that's having devastating effects on our wonderful little blue space ball.
But I wonder if it's really is caused by humans, or if it's part of a natural cycle. I bet if we had the same technology we have today way back 20,000 years ago, we would have convinced ourselves we caused the ice age.
I haven't done a great deal of research into our current global changes, so I can only speculate [emoji19]

Coral reefs tend to die where the human population is the largest. Overfishing disrupts the food chain and algae takes over killing the corals. Unfortunately for AGW alarmists the seas aren't warming.

Very interesting video.

Amazing video .. thanks for sharing it ..!!!

Honestly, nothing can be done to stop the increasing acidification of the ocean and warming temperatures. Best hope is that some corals evolve/adapt and become hardier and more resistant to the changes.

Wow, such a touchy topic.
I'm out of college many, many years, but it was always my understanding the polar caps were too cold for Ozone gases to be present. And, isn't our Earth currently at a larger angle on its axis as it spins around the Sun. And, arent the oceans cleaner and healthier than they have been in years, maybe a 100 years or more. If you live in the NYC area, do you realize that the docks and piers, west side of Manhattan, the ones that were built over a hundred years ago, are only now decaying over the past 10-15 yrs. It's hard to believe, but true. For years the water was toxic, void of life. Due to cleaner water, worms have returned, ate and bored into the piers. Our government was supposed to regulate pollution, what a joke! A local sewage treatment plant, Bay Park, has been pouring millions of gallons of waste, daily, into our bays and estuaries for the past 30 years. When Superstorm Sandy hit Long Island, this plant was treating over 52 million gallons of poop/day. The treatment plant was inoperative, and for 3 1/2 yrs they didn't treat anything, all of this waste went into the bay. Algae blooms are the norm. Shellfish are gone, in fact, no one is allowed to harvest in this area. Today, this plant is fully processing, but the waste water is still pumped into the bay. Nitrogen levels are out of control. The cost to dump elsewhere isn't profitable.

Along with the harmful causes that damages to the reefs, the reefs also provide many, many beneficial wonders to its surrounding communities. It provides protection from incoming waves to the town located right near the coral reef. It also has the possibility to contain a medication that can be utilized in many ways. With the biodiversity the coral reefs hold, there is a possibility that it could house a potential medication that could change the society around us. Coral reefs also bring in a significant amount of income for economic systems, between tourism, or the jobs they create. These are just a few reasons why coral reefs should and need to be saved.

What environmentalists fail to mention is that we are currently at the end of an ice age, that is the main reason the world is heating up. An ice age is defined by having ice on the north and south poles. The glaciers are melting because of this, we are just witnessing alot of the change because we are near the end. The world has gone through these cycles for billions of years, heating up and cooling down. I'm not staying we aren't doing things that are bad for the world like air pollution, water pollution etc. I'm just saying there is nothing we can do about the natural progression of the earth. But America does the most about trying to end pollution. Some people on here say we need to stop pointing fingers but look how many are blaming Trump.

Amen to this... there's actually proof that the "temperate increase" was faked.

I can understand the skepticism here but we cannot deny other human impacts on the reef. Overfishing, pollution, habitat degredation being good examples. The reason reefs get overrun by algae so often is due to the overfishing of urchins and herbivorous fish. Im not saying climate change is not an issue but the reefs could at least have a better chance without the more immediate human impacts such as overfishing damaging the balance of the ecosystem.

here is a good article on a remote reef recovering.

Im sure some coral will survive. After all they have been around for 100's of millions of years and been through many mass extinctions. Its not their wholesale extinction we worry about but rather the loss of biodiversity that will take millions of years to return

Evolution is some species adapting and others going extinct, we and the animals we enjoy and the plants we eat would not be here now if not for others dying off. We can't stop natural selection.

What many dont realize is that these animals we use as food or other uses wont be around longer if we dont conserve them and their habitats. Reefs like the great barrier reef provide habitat for many commercially important fish. Not to mention overfishing decimating fish stocks

I don't deny climate change. The climate has always changed for millions of years. Who is to say the GBR has not bleached out like this 1000's of year ago.

In the seventies the hype was global cooling. Then it changed to global warming. And now it is labeled climate change. There is no proof that man has any effect on the earth. Chernobyl is starting to come back after only a few decades. The earth has a wonderful way of healing itself. It has been around long before us and will be here long after us as well.
