Meh, sounds like any other Apex support story. These are getting old.

I was in a sorta similar situation …. lite was getting old so I looked at both GHL and the 2016 Apex. Went with the latter because I just have too many apex modules and didn't feel like rebuying them all.

Neptune should send you a 2016 model brain then if they dont make the old ones anymore. Since you were under warranty still.
Unfortunately, I am 5 months out of the 1 year warranty period. :(

I hear you. I've been conversing with Vinny at GHL. It seems as though my initial output expenditure for the GHL will be even more than anticipated. I would need three BOB's to control my pumps and lights. Additionally, I would need a total of 4 power bars and at $250 a pop, the GHL is becoming exponentially more expensive. Now, if the reliability is there and I can find supporting manuals or documentation on how to modify my existing components to work with the GHL, it still seems like a viable option. There is a price to pay for reliability and peace-of-mind. There are so many components that are made with the Neptune Apex connection in mind because of the market dominance of Neptune. I think Neptune Systems is relying on this fact and, in general, allowing product reliability to not be their main concern. GHL is still my hope for the future. I just wish there was a lot more information out there to be able to help the end-user or prospective purchaser out.

There is always the DIY Raspberry Pi option

I think this is a difficult craw that hangs up a lot of people, except GHL doesn't use multiple modules like Apex does (They do have a couple don't get me wrong). You can do everything with GHL that you can with Apex but with much less wires and doodads. Although, throwing out all those modules or taking a loss trying to sell them all after so much money being invested can be painful...

My own experience with apex and it’s insidious accessories is that they’re pretty reliable as long as you don’t let it get too old. Pretty shabby to tell a customer just out or warranty that you’ve got a fancy paperweight on your hands. I’d have demanded at least a discount on the new model.

Dunno, I never really looked at GHL back when I was considering a controller. Picked apex for bunch of reasons that still make sense to me six years on. I’ve had a few issues, but generally satisfied.

It was fairly reliable sans a few issues that propped up needing tech support intervention via remote connection, for 17 months. Then it has hit the proverbial fan. Still looking at GHL for the future but the more I find out the more I have to spend. In actuality, considerably more than I have invested in Apex to perform the same functions, BUT the reliability factor is what I am paying for and that might very well be worth it. Still not clear that GHL can do all that the Apex does but the reliability factor and long term product support or lack thereof, at least for me, is the biggest rub with Apex right now.

Maybe shoot @Ditto a message about his switch over, he has a few awesome threads detailing every tiny aspect of the switch he made and he had a TON invested in Apex.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be looking into those.

I didn't mean it it that sense so no reason to take offense. It was a metaphoric way to say that Neptune offers lackluster post sale support and is known for it as repeated over and over in multiple "lack of support" threads.

No offense was taken. You'd have to be fairly egregious to do that. I agree that Neptune leaves a lot to be desired on many fronts. It was the "These are getting old." statement that led me to believe you appeared to be tired of hearing about them and consequently didn't want to hear about my issue that prompted my response. Thank you for the clarification. It is appreciated.

Yeah, judging by the picture, the Apex Classic days are numbered....yet even with known issue, they continue to be sold.
