Weird dark green bubbles. Eggs? Algae?

I would take care of it now since it's still on a frag plug and easy to remove from the tank.

If it's only on that frag and has not been in the tank for to long..... Just remove it! I had a birdsnest and unfortunately I didn't see the bubble algae on it, and has become a issue... I just bought emerald crabs and they have no interest in the bubble algae.. If your gonna remove manually be extremely care to not pop them because if you do. They start coming from everywhere in the tank..

I'll try to pull the frag out and scrape it off. The plug is glued in but should still break free.

I don't have emerald crabs because I heard they eat zoas and soft coral so I never introduced any.

As everyone else has said its bubble algae. Since its still a frag try to remove the frag and then scrape it off if possible. Be sure to dip several times in some clean water and dont let any of that water into your tank. If the bubbles burst it released the spores which could spread like wildfire. If that did not work, and more pops up an emerald crab is a means to an end but the nutrient problem allowing them to grow is the key to keeping it under control. Best of luck!

Yeah I'm trying to get my tank under control but it's still new. Just over 2 months in and I can't get phosphates under control.

Still trying to decide if gfo needs to happen but I've heard its bad for corals and the stuff I have leaches brown water not matter how much I rinse it.

Are you currently running any carbon? Maybe mixing a small amount into that could help. Not enough to cause a block up or for it to over tumble.

yes, I don't know how much it's helping, it's in a media bag in a canister filter. I'm basically just using this filter as a media reactor.

I might get rid of it and get a tumbler instead though. I'm not showing a build up of anything but phosphates but I hear that nitrates can build up on these things.

I'm only using it because I already had it from when I had a fresh water tank and it moves a lot of water.

The emerald crab is going to do what he does, but I’d rather not make it worse. However, exactly how much it spreads the algae...I don’t know nor do I think anyone knows for sure.

I wonder if you could inject them with hydrogen peroxide
That sounds like a lot of work.

I pulled the frag, scraped it with a razor blade and put it back. No more issues.

If they come back use Vibrant as suggested but when you notice the algae going away stop the use, if not it will attack other items in your tank. It worked great on my 180 to curtail it. There are like 4 different strains of bubble algae, some you can pick off, some emeralds eat, and one that is a nightmare to control.

I just finished with the BA nightmare. My emerald crab was eating it, but IMO that just helps it spread. Ultimately what I ended up doing was replacing ALL the rock after sterilizing the tank with vinegar. Fortunately I only have a 14 g Biocube so as labor intensive as it was, it worked! Going into my second month and no BA. I also sterilized everything that went into the tank; net, tools, etc. If it's just on the plug, pull it and very carefully remove the bubbles without breaking them. Then apply hydrogen peroxide to the spots with a Q'tip, rinse in RO/DI and put it back in. Stop this stuff now or it will only get worse.

I don't really worry about bubble algae to much, I see some here and there but they never seem to take off and engulf the tank, just my experience.
