That is a good starting culprit. 6 is way high, I never let mine go above 3. Now that I am getting into sps, it won't go above 1.
Get your rodi back to 0 and do some water changes, run some sort of phosphate media, and clean off as much as you can by hand.

The other option is to starve them. If you run a sump and are a little handy, you can build a very easy algae scrubber. If the scrubbers removes the nutrients there is nothing to feed or promote growth in the display tank. Really easy to build. Search it.

If I build my own algae turf scrubber can I use my existing return lines and just put in a PVC "T" and flow control valve? I just don't want to add/buy another pump that will be running 24/7

Those two fish produce so much waste it's not even funny. Get your tds to 0, and keep doing water changes. I would add snails anyway even if you have to keep adding them cause they get eaten. I would add about 50 or more and put some on the rocks so they can start munching. How big is the tank?

I'm going to get new filters for my RO/DI today and I'll pick up some snails as well. The tank is 180 gallons. I've been doing weekly water changes of 35 gallons...I also just added LED lights to the tank and had them running a lot. I've had them off for 3 days except when I fed them last night

I would have a hard time just chucking that water out but that's just me. From the pics it looks like there's no coral in the tank right? If so I would just use the water and keep up the water changes like your doing and I would also get like 100 or so snails. You could get more if you wanted. It will also help with the algae on the glass and overflow.

6 isn't that high in general but it depends what the 6TDS is actually made of. That tank looks like a it could keep a clean up crew and a tang very healthy.
What size tank is that? I recommend .5 snails for every gallon. Yes you could get more but you want to make sure the tank can provide enough food to keep everything alive.

I have a Powder Blue Tang and Desjardini Sailfin...should I cut down on their feelings and hope that they eat some algae?

Every healthy reef has algae. Nothing to be concerned about unless you have corals and its smothering them.

Well I'm ok with SOME algae but is getting too crazy
The algae doesn't seem too bad but it's important to get it under control before it spreads too much. Since you don't have corals, you can reduce your lighting schedule to 4-5 hours or so but I don't think there is a need to go completely dark. With those fish, I don't think it makes sense to keep adding snails that are just going to be eaten.
Remove as much as you can manually then do large water changes once you've replaced your RODI filters.

I don't have it in the tank at this time because the pump burned up...I will be ordering a new pump soon though.
