Green hair algae is getting crazy... Fast!

Aah yes, not running a skimmer is contributing as well. I don't believe carbon reduces nitrates, it's meant more to bind particles in the water to give it a clearer look as well as bind toxins from any biological warfare going on.
Adding macroalgae can reduce your nitrates but I think you'll also see a difference when you start the skimmer back up. I think water changes of that size are fine as long as you keep up with them; you're not going to remove all the nitrate/phosphate unless you replaced all the water. It takes time but once you have it under control, you should coast afterwards

How long ago did u add your rock they will feed n03 n04 for the alge to live on and when u test it seem to be fine you csn raise mag up over 1500 ppm and should help but you still need to know way the problem is there what kind of cleaning crew do you have are you useing socks for filtering and what are your alk cal mag n04 and n03 @

I add a few new to rock about 2 or 3 weeks ago....they were rocks that I had here in another tank. I have a wet dry filter and I change my filter pad about every 7-10 days.
Nitrates- 80ppm! I guess I need to up my water change amount.
Nitrite- 0ppm
I'll have to test for the alk, cal and mag though.

You need to be running a skimmer, change all your rodi fillters out, run a reactor with about 3 cups of carbon in it, start running a refugium oralga scrubber, throw a filter sock on, reduce feedings and absolutely most important make sure your leds are acclimating to the tank very very slowly or you will create a much bigger algae bloom with all those excessive nutrients! In this hobby we need to be proactive about our systems not reactive, by the time things of this nature strike it is a hard long battle to restore everything. It can be done but you defintely wont be able to "coast" once you get it corrected you always need to be on top of EVERYTHING in your system! or your are just fighting a loosing battle!

Take out the rocks and scrub them in a bucket. That's what I do, I didn't really look at the photos, do you have any rocks with established coralline on them? The more often you scrub the coralline the quicker it will spread. Its harder for the bryopsis or whatever type of turf algae you are battling to take hold when its encrusted with coralline. True story. My coral beauty is an algae destroyer, I has a foxface before in my last setup that wouldn't touch the stuff. A good skimmer is the absolute heart of any reef tank.

i never let my tds go above 0 because it slowly accumulates in your tank after awhile of water changes. i also beefed up my filter system to remove chlorominesI am losing the battle with green hair algae and was wondering if it could be because I used water from my RO/DI that has a TDS 6ppm?

I use hydrogen peroxide on my zoanthid frags and it works great without harming the zoas. I soak them for 3 minutes in 3% h2O2, then 5 minutes in tank water. I have also used it on some rock that had hair algae and zoanthids on it by spraying it on with a cheap spray bottle and then letting it sit on a table for a minute then dunking it in a five gallon bucket of tank water then repeat once more. I have a lot of rock so I was not worried about losing some of the beneficial bacteria on the rocks I've sprayed. If I were in your shoes I would just do one rock then wait a week or two until doing another until it's completely gone

I have never been able to get 0 TDS...at least according to my online TDS meter. I even replaced every filter and the lowest I got was 1ppm TDS. The TDS of the water that I am putting through my RO/DI is between 130-140ppm. I have a AquaFX 4 stage with a pressure gauge and inline meter.

I did that with a couple rocks yesterday when I cleaned the tank. Mr. Clean magic erasers worked wonders on my glass!

I've been considering getting rid of my wet/dry and going with a refugium and reactors. None of my fish will harm a Sea Hare?

I love Sea Hare they do a lot fast then snail. GFO reactor to maintain and keep your system under control of algae

yea, that a rough situation. i have a the same filter as you and my water is around 128 -130ppm before going into my filter. id call over there at aqua FX and ask for Peter. They should be able to get you on track because i personally think having ANY tds in your tank will eventually cause problems. Others like to let it slide but not with the expensive livestock i have in my tank. i hope you get this resolved and good luck. also call your water company and make sure they aren't treating you water with chlormines. if so you'll have to upgrade your filter a bit which wasn't expensive.i learned the hard way with all my acros bleaching at the base. once i upgraded my filter it all reversed.good luck

i knew it had to be something simple. those filters are pretty badd asss. I'm guessing your tds is really zero. id get a gfo reactor to bring down your phosphates and get a few turbo snails along with a few red legged hermits. they just LOVE hair algae. i also got a lawnmower blenny that attacks my algae all day long. with those three you should see a pretty good difference in a few weeks. they keep my algae in check .
