I got this frag 4 days ago. It's been slouched over and shrunken most of the time. It has stood up about half way but no polyps and looks nothing like when I got. I don't see why it won't recover but figured I'd see what others think since I'm new to corals. I have a Duncan and 2 candy canes or trumpets (not sure if there's a difference) that seem to be doing well in the qt.

They can be very fussy and sulk for days, mine will close up for 4 to 6 days to shed than reopen bigger and better. Could be shedding but he looks a bit bad. What are your parameters? Lighting?

I think flow is one of the most important factors with leathers... they like a lot of it in my experience. I have had several that wouldn't "stand up" unless they received a good amount of flow. I know it sounds a little backwards, as when they are sulking, they look like they are getting blown over by the flow.

Agreed, mine loves high flow

I forgot to mention that it looked like it was shedding up until yesterday. The only thing I've tested is nitrates which were 20 last time but I'll check again and sg 1.026. I've been doing a 1g wc 1-2x a week. Lighting is a cheap white/blue led I got off amazon and for flow I have a 100gph hob filter and 240gph evo nano. Maybe I should try moving it. The Duncan and trumpets have been doing really well.

I just read that it can occur during shipping if a coral is leaning against something. This spot was right where it was laying over on the egg crate. I blew the dead tissue off and since it's no longer touching anything I'll see if it recovers. I'll definitely take any other suggestions as well.

Definitely try a coral dip, could be from shipping. Don't give up yet. Does it smell? That's a sure sign it's a goner if it smells bad ie not like the ocean
What I read about shipping and the coral touching something just sounded similar to my situation. Mine was laying over touching the egg crate in my tank and that's where the spot occurred. It was in great shape at the lfs when I got it. I will check it out tonight and try a dip if it's not lost. Thanks

Wow.. maybe it could be your water that's doing it bad, did you acclimate it.
Yes I acclaimated it for about 2 hrs. My parameters don't seem too bad, ammonia/nitrite 0, nitrate 20(working on bringing it down), phos 0, ph 8-8.2, sg 1.026, calcium 500. I have a duncan, trumpet and candy cane in there that seem to be doing great.

Try leaning it on a rock see if it attaches to it. If it keep melting away cut a good chuck off of it maybe you'll get to save a little frag from it. I also bought one not too long ago and wouldn't open. It also like high flow
