I bought a red planet frag a while back. It had some green but nice red ends and red polyps sticking out. Since placed in my tank it has turned almost entirely green. Slight red near tips and clear polyps. I've read and been told they turn green when there is less light. It grows great. All over ny overflow box and new "sticks" coming off. I was curious how many believe this color change is a result of lighting?

it is pretty conclusive. if beyond 300 par you will see red. otherwise green

It just amazes me that it is not getting that amount of light. I wish there was a par meter in my LFS to rent. It is about 5 inches under the water Directly underneath one of my LEDs

First of all beautiful tank. I used to have the Red Planet years ago, and if placed in low light it will turn mostly green like yours. Mine has always been in MH so I can't compare to LED.

Just be thankful you can grow it and that it doesn't brown out.

Thanks guys. I uped my lights to a peak of 70% white and 85% blue to 85% white and 100% blue. Still ramped up and down and the new peek is only 1 hour. With 2hours before and after of the old peek. We will see what happens

Mines under led nice green base. The rest is red and tips almost just white. Especially when it decides to have a fast growth spurt.

Wow it looks awesome like that, i put money on 200 to 230 par is were its sitting

Lights come on at 10am. Ramp up till 2pm every 30min. 5pm start dropping till 10pm. Moonlights till 11. 2pm to 4pm is old peek. As well as 5pm to 7. 7 to 10 every 30min
Don't shock the other corals that don't like as much light. Also, how long are you running the LEDs total? Only 1 hour at the peek?

Idk about conclusive. We seem to have different opinions.

may be higher. but his light is lower par.
you can look at any rp. even his.

green is in the shaded areas

I have 3 no votes on the pole. Why would people disagree?

your question is kind of rigged depending how you look at it.

green red planets do not mean lighting is insufficient. many people drop their RPs down low and like the green look.
some up high for the red.

others want half and half.

So your saying "insufficient " was the wrong word? Obviously if its growing the color does not mean not enough light. You think they thought that?
