Yep. Most don’t use filter socks as youre removing particulate matter that corals can use for food, and you can run the skimmer on a timer to try to increase nutrient levels.

My nitrates and phosphates were hovering around 0 0 for months. I finally turned off my skimmer completely and turned refugium down to 1 hour a day just to keep the Chaeto and Sea Lettuce alive and make some algae for the copepods etc. Finally I have some nitrates and phosphates
