My green star polyps did not open today, I purchased them 3 days ago, and they seemed to open, not the entire colony but partially some of it, they looked a bit redish I touched the colony and the red came off im aware that some soft corals shed but GSPS? I'm afraid that it has died, as a tiny bit of the colony has some light discoloration, any ideas?

They are somewhat red with bits of purple sticking out

Where did you get them from? I've seen them at petco with cyano on them.

I have to randomly brush off algae from GSP. It seems to grow easy on the purple mat of the coral. It's no biggie. Simply blow it off with a baster.
Yeah I guess but I'm worried because they have not opened

How old is your tank? What are your water parameters? Sometimes it's takes a couple days to get fully stabilized and open fully. You tank looks like the parameters might be off with the algea I see.

Yes it is quite new, pH is about 8.1 and the specific gravity is 1.025, nitrats are present but nitrate and ammonia are not, I figured GSP could handle a "dirty tank"

The GSP will grow. Sometimes they can take over a week to open. Just keep blowing any cyano off of them. Before you know it you'll be asking how to trim it back. Lol

Yeah I'm just worried since they haven't opened up like they have for the past few days

How's the flow? Keeping it in medium to higher flow area could help keep the cyano off it!

Mine stayed closed a week when I first got them. They are bitchy little things sometimes I moved them up in the tank and put them in a high flow area and they opened slowly took about three days after the move.

Your showing nitrite, but no nitrates or ammonia, right? How long has this tank been up and running?

Well I would need a complete run down on your tank pramaters.
