I live in northern NJ and the water is not great. I keep burning through my RODI filters and I’m curious if there if adding any additional stages would help. If so, what should I add?

Is it the resin you are burning through or something else?

What kind of system do you have?

I’d have to check again, it’s been a while. The TDS going in is pretty high though. Once the TDS coming out of the membrane is above 0, I change the resin.

How often do you change all those resin’s now?

Do you still have the single stage resin in your main RODI unit?
I just installed it 2 days ago, so I'll have to get back to you later on the resin endurance. Yes, it's actually a 2 stage DI on top of the unit on the left, but the cartriges holding the resin are small, thus the reason for the upgrade. They are currently bypassed, so after the RO membrane the water goes into the three large DI containers on the right.

Interesting notes!!
Pressure is high, over 100psi.

I’m away right now, when I get back I’ll post notes on in/out TDS.

Won’t the out depend on the age of the resin though?

Need the TDS of before the membrane ( water supply TDS) and after the membrane, before it hits the resin.

What would be a good tds reading be after the ro membrane? Mine reads 7-8 after the ro membrane. I guess what I'm asking is; what number would motivate you to replace the ro membrane?

That would tell you the rejection rate know the tds of both sides of the membrane. Would be a indication if it's time to replace the membrane.
Plus the op asked why he was burning through di resin.

Depends on which membrane you have and your tap TDS. I have a Spectrapure 99% membrane. My tap TDS is around 400 to 450 and my TDS after the membrane is 4. As long as my tap stays the same I would probably look at replacing the membrane once it gets around 6 or 7. You have to realize that each time you get an increase in tds you are lowering the volume your DI can process. For example, with my 4 TDS my DI should be able to produce around 1100 gallons of 0 TDS water. If it jumps to 7 tds then the DI will only process around 630 gallons of 0 TDS water.

What is the TDS of the supply water and what is the TDS of the water after the ro membrane?

Okay, just got home from Hawaii, tank is an algae mess! Ugh!

Here are the numbers to answer your questions.

Supply = 174
After Membrane = 006

Appreciate your help.

Having just gone through a similar process, but probably different causes.
If you haven't replaced the membrane in a while, that's the first thing I would do.
I would pick the Spectrapure membrane. It's suppose to have the best rejection rate. Be sure to get the proper flow restrictor from them as well.
