H202 dosing

Ive not dealt with them personally but one of the big things with lights out is complete darkness. even light in the room can be enough to make it ineffective. lights out and cover the tank prevent all light. at the same time id start vodka carbon dosing . this meathod has some controversy in regards to negative effects of having extreme phosphate and nitrate reduction but in conjunction with pitch black periods you should see improvement. here is a link covering carbon dosing with vodka http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/
Definitely going to try everything I can before I dump gas in it lol

That site covers nitty gritty and how much per proof of vodka but intro dose i used for around 150 gallons was .6ml. the guide says .1ml per 25 gal intro dose

Long story short pitch black periods coupled with carbon dosing as a increased nitrate and phosphate removal. i have been at war with red fuzzy algae that spreads like wildfire and dosing, carbon gfo reactor, with modified light cycles and manual removal im finally on the last 20 yards after thr last bits of it

Right on thanks for the info

I did not read past the first few posts but I would raise ph to 8.3 and do a lights out for 5 days. Cover the tank glass with cardboard so no light at all gets in. Keep the oxygen up in the tank with water splashing a bit going into the sump

I got rid of my dino problem like Darbna said.

I raised the pH to 8.4 and stopped feeding for a week while sucking up all the dinos I could with daily water changes and running my skimmer wet. Then lights out covered tank for three days while dosing peroxide 2x per day. Dose into your sump or overflow so peroxide can dissipate before it hits you livestock. Kept up the dosing for one more week then returned pH to normal 8.1-8.2 range. I started feeding again cautiously. I have an LPS dominated tank and the only loss I suffered was the Chaeto in my sump (take it out before you start dosing) and some macro I had on one of my rocks.

I believe the lights out period breaks up the dino and forces cells to disperse into the water column where they are more easily oxidized by the peroxide. After dosing the ORP will rise for 15-30 minutes then return to normal. Looking back I should probably have kept my pH raised for an additional week or so (it couldn't hurt).
