H2O2 for aiptasia and dipping cheato algae.

Hey guys, iv got few aiptasia in my dt, but loads in my refugium. I have a large ball of cheato and taht too has many. My plan is to dip cheato in 6%h2o2 and water mix 50:50. And inject some into the aiptasia in my dt. would it kill my cheato too? Howlong to dip? Alao have a few bristol worms in my cheato.

If you dip your cheato in H202 then you will kill it.

Before Chucking it out, I would try a couple of peppermint shrimp. They ate all the aptasia in my DT, but also attack my Euphyllia. Make sure they are peppermint not camel. It's a passive solution compared to injections ect. They cost about $8 each.

I'd look for other means to get rid of them. Bristol worms are just fine.

H2O2 and algae aren't a good combination unless your trying to get rid of the algae

I hate peppermints, never got lucky with them and they instead ate my lps corals..

Cheats is algae. H202 purpose is to kill algae. It is pretty clear, don't do it.

The only way I found to keep aiptasia under control in my system was to use a type of copperband butterfly (Chelmon marginalis).

Just lost mine today. Only had in dt for a week after it was qted for 4 weeks. I think my yellow tang took offense. It refused to eat. I tried to save by pulling out today, but was too far gone. I hate that these guys are so iffy. I had one for 1.5 yrs prior to getting rid of it for eating lps. I never had a aiptasia in all that time. Now, I have lost 2. One in qt, one after. I will not try a third.

Was it a Chelmon marginalis (one less band than usual)? I think those adapt more readily.

peroxide is not used for killing aiptasia, even if some posts mentioned it worked I wouldn't use this way for the target.

I am not sure. Looked just like my other. I will double check as I have the body since I just lost it. May do necropsy tonight.

Nope. It was Chelmon rostratus. I have not tried the other. Maybe I will shoot for that instead.

Do you have LPS in your refugium? The rest of my LPS have had no witnessed attacks. It's true tho, they will devour all the aptasia. Isn't the copperband semi reef safe too? All my aptasia's been long gone and I'm still keeping 2 peppermints in my DT with a good ammount of coral variety. Every once in a while they will attack my Euphyllia Glabrescens snipping a few tentacles, and I witnessed a gruesome attack on the Cristata. I believe they did a "lawn mowing" on my green toadstool leather. The tentacles always grow back. I consider it low impact but fully intend to banish soon.

They nip at lps, so im not considering it.

Copperbands are way too finicky...

A few years ago I had a ridiculous aiptasis problem. My tank had LPs and softies, and when I added a Pearlscale butterfly the aiptasis were gone in three days!!!
