Hey fellow reefers. I was wondering what are you ways to get rid of hair algae? Please let me know what you do if its a fish or a additive.

I did a lot of things in a short period of time, so I cannot tell you which exactly did it. But I: changed to RODI water, I treated red slime with (2 doses to be exact, for a 90g tank) Ultralife Red Slime Remover , lessened the lights for a couple of days and did not feed as much, and added more snails (turbo and cerith) and I physically removed a lot of the HA at the bases. I can tell you though, I have seen 90% improvement. The HA has barely been coming back, and it is very slow as well. My large turbo snail though stays in the area where the HA was the worst, so I think he is keeping up with it.

Best to start by trying to fiqure out why you have it. What are your water parameters? Especially nitrates and phosphates. Do you feed, if so how much? And what, any liquid?

I think it's from feeding and lights cause iv been nursing my bta but iv been wanting to get this Blenny for awhile. Do you think he will be fine in the tank I cut the tank lights down also they stay on for 8 hours instead of 10

LA says he needs a minimum of 30g. Bluezoo says 24g. So I would say yes, you can have him, but not long term. Might want to check out some possibilities here- Nano Fish

Iv looked it up and it says minimum tank is 10 gal but here's a pic of the whole tank do you guy with your longer experience if he will be fine.

Nvm it does say 30 gallons. I guess I can try snails maybe cause the blue legged crabs I get keep killing each other for shells when I have a bunch of empty shells. What do you guys think would work on hair algae on the inverts?

Mexican turbo snails will clear that in no time. I'd only get one in a 10 gallon though. They are big and will knock over anything and everything in their path. More than one and they will not get enough food in your tank.

To be honest, i can't even see the algae in your tank! If algae has popped up b/c of the additional feeding just scale back the feeding and make sure to export the algae out.

on small tanks with no skimmer, small but frequent water changes are usually a very good idea and can help immensely with keeping your nutrients/algae in check.

Also, increasing amphipod/copepod populations would help with cleaning up the algae/extra nutes and are much better at it than crabs IMO (by a LOT).

What is your fitration and maintaience schedule like? You want to treat the cause not the symptoms otherwise you'll just keep chasing it. Those clowns will grow, eat more, and produce more waste, I don't think adding any other fish to that tank will be a good idea. You need to be careful of how much you feed and figure out an effective form of nutrient export.

I feed very little now that I have the hair algae did I get the right snails and my anemone is moving cause like an idiot I moved my powerhead and he got mad but he's in a new spot and looks good
