Hand-Picking Corals in Indonesia

Great info. I’m a diver and want to go to Raja Ampat before I die.

Excellent, I'm sure it would be a memorable trip for you! Just be careful about what you eat and drink and have discussions with your doctor about maybe bringing along some antibiotics. While I'm most certainly not giving medical advice, but for me Cipro and Metronidazole are needed. But being a diver I'm sure you are aware of the medical precautions associated with diving and travel. Having traveled all over the world in different careers during my life including the remotest areas of Brazil, I've never had any issues except in Indonesia!

Thanks for all the info. Maybe one day.you are a lucky guy. Enjoy all of that for the rest of us!

Here's an overview video. Lots of folks sent me PMs and I'll get back to you in the next few days as everything settles in and I start to get some pics. Watch here on R2R for our sale thread, will be posting a few pieces daily here exclusively.

Love these posts. Thanks Dr. Mac.

I'm curious if you have many DOAs in your shipments? or maybe none? Do you prepare for a certain percentage of DOAs?

DOAs are extremely low on corals, just a few out of many hundreds this time. We did have some losses with anemones this time, the last shipment we didn't lose any, so it does vary. We calculate the losses into our costs and spread that out over the entire shipment. After a few days you do tend to lose a few corals that initially looked good--it's difficult to judge some when they first arrive and haven't opened fully, but overall we tend to have maybe 3% losses.

You guys used to have really nice collections and deal on your bargain frags for sps and acro. What happen? I love getting acro from you guys because of the wide selection, now all you have are lps and solfty.

Your right, i've neglected posted lots of SPS on the Bargain Frags page lately, they sell quickly and I haven't been able to keep up. I'll get some more posted this week! We do have lots of nice Acro colonies right now if you'd like some bigger pieces.

When you say hand picked do you mean you are picking from the distributor or are you actually diving to pick the corals?

If you check my second post in this thread you'll find your answer. It would be illegal for a non citizen of the country to collect corals. Diving and looking is OK, collecting no, except for local divers with permits.
