Hanna nitrate checker!

For everyone hoping for high range I would think you could trade a little accuracy for range by diluting the sample. Use 1ml tank water and 9ml fresh saltwater, and multiply the result by 10 to get a 0-50 range, or 2ml sample and multiply by 5 for 0-25, 5ml and x2 for 0-10?
Yea, thats what i was thinking. We do that all the time in the lab for other testing. I dont see why it wouldnt work here...

Too easy to make an error with that low of a sample size. I don't use the CA checker because of it. Even though I'm very careful (and worked with Hanna to make sure I was doing it correctly) it just doesn't give consistent results.

0-5 just seems way too low. I really don't need to know the precise number if it's under 5 and I wouldn't think there are enough ULN systems to make a worthwhile sales forecast. I have issues reading Salifert in the 10 to 25 range. Nyos is better, so that's what I use. if this was 0-20 or 0-30 I would probably buy it as long as it wasn't a dilute test like the CA one.

Yea i currently use NYOS when i actually feel like testing. Usually i dong even bother with it...

NYOS for me does not match the color chart, the orange of the chart is much lighter than actual. Do you agree?

I see what your saying, it doesn't match exactly but I've tried every one out there and Nyos is by far the best higher range kit.

I'm in the same boat that a 0 - 5 is only useful for people running ULN systems, which is getting more and more rare since most data now is saying closer to 10 is better. I don't want to have to dilute either. I don't know who they were listening to to make it 0 - 5 but they will miss most of the market with that range.

I'm generally under the 12 mark, so not in the 'orange' range for the test. I find the yellows to match pretty well.

Just saw on Facebook (post from Hanna itself) that the range is not yet final. Kind of hoping saltwateraquarium.com has old specs!

Being that Hanna has called it "Low range", and they have had their specs out for a while, it's not going to change and be above 5ppm. Look at all their other colormeters that are labeled low range, they are very low. But I do suspect that they will come out with a high range tester later

They don't have the specs on their website, do they?

Yes the yellows do match well. The oranges are bad though. I have a predatory tank in the 50ppm range and I got NYOS for that tank specifically. The test is useless for that range.

That's a bummer. I prefer it over Salifert. Never tried the Red Sea one.

Salifert is much easier and faster for me. I was very impressed with NYOS low range, and I like having the control test.

I have issues telling between the pinks, even when I use the low range option of the test. If it's over 5, they all look the same to me LOL.

They did before, I would imagine they still do.
Not that I can find. Since it hasn't been released yet, they don't have any specs or documentation on their site for HI781. And they did tell people who asked that the range isn't finalized yet.

They definitely had it before. And like I said, they call it a "low range nitrate test". Low range is not going to be anywhere near the range that the people on this thread want. All of their other Low range test are in ULN range.

My theory is that they got negative feedback on the 0-5 range so are working out how to dilute the sample to increase the range. I bet it will come out with a higher range (like 0-20) but require dilution like their CA test. That’s the square my chips are on!

I think they will come out with a "high range" later.
