Does it read correctly with the Hanna standard solutions?

Hanna’s are fantastic but they do fall out of calibration over time, I like checking against standards before I test to check the accuracy.

They are like $13
Replaced my phosphate ULR last week actually cause it was reading the standard correctly.

I didn’t get the standard solution but probably should have. I did buy this used!

I'm trying to get any sort of nitrate reading with a salifert test kit, but haven't yet with increased feeding and decreased protein skimmer time. How can you raise nitrates to 20-30 ppm and still keep phosphates low and without algae breakouts?

Dose KNO3

I use it without problems. It came with the special pipette and I use their bottle of water.

it took me a wek of using neo nitro before i got anything detectable

0-20 could still be concerned ultra low in some tanks lol.

tested mine yesterday and they have been running close to 40 ppm. If it weren’t for the fact that I’ve noticed explosive growth in the past week of almost all my corals I would have panicked.

It is listed as 'low range', rather than 'ultra low range'. I would think 0-5 would be ULR so LR could be better than that. Or maybe most would think 0-2 as ULR.

Did you mean incorrectly?

As far as I know, the NO3 test is highly affected by salinity. So it may not be possible to dilute the sample to get it within range and have the correct reading. But again, I might be wrong, I am not a chemist. Maybe Randy can comment on this...

Could you not dilute with zero NO3 freshly made salt water?

Hanna says no news yet.

My Nitrate Checker (HI781) is on order and expecting it within the next couple of weeks. In the mean time I found a copy of the instructions online and, wow, it's a somewhat complicated process - even more so than the Calcium checker.
