Hanna phosphate vs Red Sea

I have both the Red Sea and the Hanna Checker.

I gave up on the Red Sea because I can't distinguish the colors on anything below 0.08. You can still use it as a reference (i.e. anything yellowish is low, but it's impossible to tell if you're too low). Hanna Checker is so much better! My only complaint is I wish they had a liquid agent instead of that pain-in-the-butt powder packet.

I still use Red Sea for everything else (Ca, Mg, KH, NO3) without complaint. But I prefer Hanna to check my phosphate. :)

i kept getting different readings from hanna also.
i spoke to hanna reps last month.
you guys won't believe me but they say hanna phosphate is not made for salt water so that's why it's in accurate.
now i wasted money on this paperweight !

You got to be kidding.

I use salifert for all testing. I've been saying Hanna phosphate checker is absolutely garbage for the past year. It's hard to tell the colors precisely but I close my right eye and focus with my left eye and I do pretty well that way. Good luck bro!!

Get the 736 checker. Take reading x 3.0661 divided by 1000 for ppm.
The 736 checker is a +/- 5 ppb. Yes, parts per BILLION.

There's no other phosphate check in the hobby other than Triton or other ICP's that is as accurate.

Do you guys fill, put the reagent, and shake until dissolved in one vial while the other vial with just aquarium water is calibrating the unit so that as soon as it is ready to read, you just take out the "zeroing" vial and place the other vial with the dissolved reagent in? I couldn't get the reagent to dissolve without a ton of bubbles fast enough before the unit wanted me to "zero" it again. That's when I thought, well, I'll just dissolve it now, zero it with the other vial, and pop this one in as soon as it is ready for the second to read! lol

That's how I did it. Keep on testing the same sample and I guarantee you will get a different reading every time. Unreliable and inaccurate. Just my .02 cents.

Do not shake it.
Gently swish it back and forth turning the vial upside down and right side up.
And you'll get more accurate results using the same vial for the first step and 2nd.

Can you attach pick and what reagent you use just to confirm

ty I like the red sea stuff I tested today and got a reading of .03

Use the same vial , 10 ml in vial get c2 on checker take out add reagent turn bottle back and forth for 2 full min. Put back in checker hold button until 3 min. Count down starts release button and wait three min. You also cannot keep checking same sample as it sets it changes if you retest same sample it will read different.

Hi guys,
So I tested my tank's Iodine with both Red Sea test kit and Hanna test kit. Readings:
Red Sea:- 0.09 (High)
Hanna:- 0.0
Which reading in your opinions is the right one?
