I’ve been using the Red Sea phosphate pro yet kit for months with a constant reading of between 0.08 and 0.12 so I’ve alway thought my phosphate sits around 0.1 today I bought the Hanna phosphorus ulr checker and tests my water and it flashed 200 I did another test and got the same I then diluted the 10ml reading with 5ml tank water and 5ml rodi and it read 120 which would mean my phosphate is 0.735 if correct. I use the Hanna alk so vile is clean inserted in with the 10ml facing forward each time and have used a brand new syringe to put the water in the cuvette. After the 3 tests I used my Red Sea pro kit again and it read 0.08 any ideas what’s going on. Hanna ulr is brand new and the sachets are in date

Also I run rowaphos in a reactor so the 0.7 reading just doesn’t seem right to me tank has very little algae more the end of ugly stage as tank is 8 months old started with dead rock and sand used rowaphos since day 1

The packets came inside with the Hanna checker so I assume there right h1736-0

I would trust the Hanna kit over Red Sea

So how would I bring them down when all ready running rowaphos

All corals are fine my test acro been in the tank 3 months with good polyp extension also added another 2 a couple weeks ago that are also doing well

Fill test vile with 10ml water
Pre cut open powder sachet
Click start wait for c1 then add the cubtte wiped and 10ml mark facing forward
Wait for c2 then remove add powder set timer on phone for 2 min and tip cuvette up and down to mix powder till completely dissolved swirl cuvette to get rind of any bubbles the back in the checker 10ml facing forward click and hold 3 min timer start at the end of the 3 min it flashes 200

Might also check to be sure the optical sensor in the Hanna is clear of any dust/debris. Could also test pure RODI water to make sure it measures zero.

I can do it is brand new out the box today tho

You might have a faulty kit, i would contact Hanna, they are usually pretty good, or contact the place you bought it from and return it under warranty.

I thought the sachets might be off so I diluted the sample 5ml tank water and 5ml rodi thinking if it still read 200 it must be the sachets or the checker but it read 120

Have you tried a different test kit other than red sea? try taking a sample to your lfs to test for you, most lfs i know use salifert

I haven’t I only have the Red Sea pro which has been a consistent reading of between 0.08 and 0.12 and this new phosphorus ulr I only bought it to try get an exact reading as it’s alway a guess what the exact number is between 0.08 and 0.12 and now I’m thinking it could be 0.7 I’ll take a sample to the lfs tomorrow

If everything looks good I definitely wouldn’t make any changes. Contact who you purchased the hanna from, I had a faulty salinity checker and ended up getting a new one replaced by Hanna instruments. @Hanna Instruments may can provide more insight

Haven’t tried that yet can do a test
