i just got hanna test kits second hand. one for alkalinity and one for calcium. i did my test and the test said 68 for my alkalinty. did i do something wrong or is my tank really not doing well? im going to try and do the calcium test right now

I have both. They usually don't work .

You need to do a little math with your reading, and make sure you follow the instructions to the letter.

Multiply your reading by .056
And you'll get your answer.

I have the low range Phosphate and the ALK Hanna checkers. Both are very accurate. The Calcium test, from ancedotal evidence, are iffy at best. Make sure you reagents are current and not expired. Read and understand the directions thoroughly, and you'll be fine.

Also your volume measurements need tobe very consistent. I ordered these from amazon

I have one for 1000ul and one that dispenses 100ul. I also use 10 ml syringes to measure the same volume rather than filling to the line on the bottle

Hannah did have a recall on some of the lot numbers of the alkalinity reagent. I would purchase new reagents before using your results from the unit

I have pin point results with the Hanna Alk Checker. You have to follow directions exactly to get correct results. I also use the 10 cc syringe and not to touch the glass tube with after cleaning for best results.

Also Check that there are no scratches on the glass vials

no scratches or defects on vials. i also did the test twice on alk and got the same reading. how do i know if my lot was recalled from hanna?

I tested with my new alk reagent from Hanna and received 83 as a result. Hanna should test those powders before releasing them for trading.
