Harlequin tusk in a mixed reef

The tusk and mystery are similarly temermented. They should coexist.

Update on my situation... the mystery wrasse is fine, but my royal gamma was consumed within 10 minutes in the display...

Expensive snack! What kind of tusk did you get? I had an Australian a few years ago, it would pick up snails and shake them like it was a dog with a chew toy.

It's an Aussie. A BIG boy. I bought it "used" from a local reefer.

Looks great, they are very entertaining fish. If I ever end up with a big tank again I'd get another one.

Well.. this has gone from bad to worse... just saw the tusk swimming around with my mystery wrasse in his mouth. ticked

Is that the end of keeping tusks or do you think you'll try again with a juvenile? One of my favorite fishes, but it'd be understandable if they get blacklisted for you after this.

I've always wanted one. Thought I'd give it a shot, but I'm done.
The image of that mystery wrasse in his big blue teeth will haunt me.

Mine would hunt down any sand sleeping wrasse in the early mornings, it then ate my Potters Angel so he went to a very large FWLR

I think getting them small helps but then there's an element of luck.

I have a 300 gallon well-stocked mixed reef . I understand that hermit crabs and snails are at risk. My fish are very well fed. The Coral is predominately euphelia, leathers, and also have some nems.

Anyone have or had a tusk with any thoughts in this setting? Anyone have or had one with any feedback?

My dad had one along with a niger trigger and clown trigger for years in a mixed reef. Zero issues.

Thats a nice fish - are you sure its Australian? I thought they usually had blue lines like the picture above (or is it the light)?
