Hatched Coral Banded Catshark!

Just hatches my first of 2 catshark eggs! Praying it will make it through tonight!
Breathing is steady and regular, moving a bit.

The second one has a much slower growth rate. I can still see a large yolk sack on it.

You need get the shark eating as soon as you can. Remember, they grow extremely fast. Be prepared to make a slurry of food and syringe feed it if it does not take food. Try using quality food like LRS and reef nutrition. Buy some squid, rinse it and cut in small pieces.

I have squid, I do not have LRS. What else do you recommend to feed?

Premium seafood. Squid was favored. 2 sharks will be a handful, plans for a big tank?

Yes and no. We all want a bigger tank, and it is definitely in the plans for when we move in about 6 months. I wanted to hatch these guys and have fun with it- my local aquarium wants them once they get to 8”.

Had good success with squid, octo, and cuttlefish in the past. Whole shrimp are cool if you can find them small enough and uncooked. They should get to 8" pretty fast if you get them eating.

About 2 1/2 weeks for this one, the other one is still not hacthed yet

Good news! I went down to the tank and it is still alive! It isn’t moving very much and in a dark corner. I can see breathing.

I will pick up some squid today.

Had good success with squid, octo, and cuttlefish in the past. Whole shrimp are cool if you can find them small enough and uncooked. They should get to 8" pretty fast if you get them eating.

I hatched one of these a few years ago and got it eating squid within a few days. Just make them small pieces at first. Either put it on the end of a Shish kabob stick and feed that way or wait for it to be in a low current area and drop the piece in front of him/her

Congrats and beautiful they are. I believe they still have yolk sac on them which they will feed off of and then begin seeking food. Feed Sparingly at first as many shark egg owners get all this way and desperate to see them eat, hence fouling the water and losing the sharks due to water quality deterioration.

They can be and may be aggressive just to prepare you. Their favorite foods will be krill, raw shrimp, squid, clams, scallops and mussel. Live ghost shrimp may be an enticer to eat also. If you don't have aquarium tongs, get a pair now as you will find them useful for feeding them.

This is very interesting Please keep,us informed ! Ive seen shark eggs near the beach( knee deep water) They feel viable & no smell. I always put them back into the sea . No tellin what kind of shark egg it is !

I picked up some octopus- no squid available at the markets I went to- I ordered some squid which should be here tomorrow. I will order a set of tongs and try to get things working.

I feed very heavily with almost no impact and only do 30% monthly water changes. I try to follow the triton method. I will feed heavily to try to get them to eat, both of them still have small, almost not noticeable, yolk sacs. I will wait for them to disappear completely and then I will try feeding.

As long as no impact. they are not the easiest to rare but if you monitor, sounds like you are on the right track. They are very picky with water conditions. Hope to hear success updates. they are beauties
