Have stuff growing in frag plugs. What is it?

It looks like a mat with small bubbles. Like a basketball. Brownish. I figured the zoas would out compete it but nope. Peroxide dip doesn’t so much either.

looks like clove polyps to me. Very difficult to get rid of without chemicals. Would google that and see if that is what you think it is.

That third pic is the clearest, but white light pics would help - that said, it looks like you have some kind of (invasive) clove polyps, bubble algae (visible above and below the yellow circle on the right), another pest algae (on the yellow circle mixed with cloves polyps), and another pest algae (the long strings visible along the entire right side of the rock structure).

Looks like miniature brown clove if that is a thing, but couldn't really tell until I zoomed in on the pic. I got white pics I'll post. Previous pics were a mix of blue/white.

Yes there are brown clove polyps. Usually in the hobby we see only the blue ones cause some people get suckered into actually paying for the pest cause it pretty, but it is possible for brown to come in as hitchhikers

Yep, looks like some of the brown clove polyps I have. FWIW, I'm told they won't harm corals by stinging or whatnot, they just spread like mad.

How to kill? they're just on some of the zoa frags. Like I said, peroxide did nothing to them it seems. I could just dump the plugs as i've got duplicates of most of those zoas.

You'll have to smother them with aiptasia-X, glue, or similar in order to try and kill them. Dumping them might be the best bet if you want to get rid of 'em. I think they're sorta cute, but they are a clove polyp, so they definitely need to be contained.

It's a little odd as I haven't gotten any new corals in probably 6-8 months if not more. I'll probably just dump the plugs unless there's something else worth salvaging on them then clean the rack well.

Do they transfer around the tank or just grow outward like GSP? Maybe I can have a clove polyp rack.

If they are like blue clove polyps, they can get blown around and take up residence elsewhere. I have blue clove polyps growing in random spots no where near the original colony

If you look closer at the tentacles of the "brown star polyps" you'll notice the tentacles are branched/feathery like xenia or clove polyps. There is at least one pest nem (aiptasia) in that mass of cloves though.

yeah, I have 3-4 aiptasia I need to deal with. The frag racks seems to get the worse of it. I wonder if it's because they're in front of the return and debris/nutrients just kinda get stuck there first.
