Part of it is we don't really know what corals eat. Certainly some eat something, especially LPS love to eat. But do they care what the food is? What nutrients do they want and can they get it from the water? In the wild, nutrients are poor in the water and plankton is abundant. But in our tanks? Don't know. Certainly plenty of people grow corals without specific foods. Not only would this be good to know for growing the popular corals, but could help us to feed NPS stuff like gorgonians, sponges, and the holy grail of NPS known as dendronephthya. This is another huge discussion, but an worthwhile one. Maybe we can make a poll later to see what happens in different aquarium.
