Hello All

Welcome to R2R!!!

Welcome to the hobby and the forum.

I had freshwater tanks as a kid and always loved the brilliant colors of the Damsels I would see from time to time.

I bought two thin books on saltwater but couldn’t wrap my head around the concept. Eventually I found Saltwater For Dummies and set my first tank up by following the outdated advice. It may have been outdated but it made the basic concepts accessible. I foolishly tried to stay under a very limited budget back then.

Soon after I found an online forum called ReefLounge and learned so much from fellow hobbyists.

Then I found a local reef club and got a lot more support there. It was great to see everyone else’s systems.

From my club I realized that there are multiple ways to do things and what works well in one system may be difficult to reproduce in another system.

You will fail often and learn from your mistakes. Also your goals will change. The better you can visualize what your long term goals are and the more research and planning that you do to achieve it the better.

Keep updating your progress.

Welcome to R2R Jason...

Many of us can relate to your experience and probably had made every single mistake written in the Reef Keeping book, but one thing is certain, as painfully expensive and frustrating as some of them are, is a definitive way of learning from your mistakes... This forum, feeds like BRS are an excellent tool to follow and having support and guidance from friends (Even if at some point they contradict) is great.

And so, I wish you the best of luck... Not to jinx you, but once a reefer, "always a reefer". :)

This is what I am working with. 125 gallon tank 6' long. I love length but wish I had gone wider. The tank has been setup for almost a year. It has been a slow process. Started out with bleached rock, but it has definitely turned brown. I have 2 different clown fish, blue tang, 2 firefish, and a goby. I have gone through a clean up crew of snails and will be getting more soon. Once my water parameters were correct according to Coral Frenzy's recommended levels, we added a few corals. Don't get me to lying about what types they are except for the Acan. The corals were small and haven't grown any, so New Radions should be in next week and hopefully the corals will thrive instead of just survive.
