Hi All

Im new here from Northern Ireland in the U.K.

I’ve a 6 foot in wall tank which I’m now eventually getting ready to fill. It’s been a long journey for many reasons but hoping to get it wet in the next couple of weeks.

As a bit of background to my tank taking so long. My tank is 6 x 3 x 2 (L x D x H) and 29” of the tank sits on a stand with the remaining 7” sitting on a wall.

Unfortunately a family member who is a retired builder cut the hole for me. Somehow the hole ended up not flat at the bottom and too small. Couldn’t complain as it was a family member.

It has taken me a couple of years to get the heart to fix this as it totally demoralised me. Recently I have managed to take the tank out of the wall and level the bottom and increase the size of the hole.

Now tank is in the wall comfortably with foam underneath to ensure no pressure points and all ready to fill. Just a few more bits to tidy up first. Starting to get excited again

Welcome to R2R!!! A quick tip - do your best to keep the stuff that's supposed to be in the tank in the tank, and keep the stuff that's not supposed to be in the tank out of the tank!

For example...

Like it, my wife once added a freshwater lobster to a cichlid tank. She bought it as a surprise for me. Would have been ok, but as they were large cichlids you had to reorganise the tank to introduce new fish etc. She didn’t do this so the Oscar ate the lobster, in trying to free the lobster the Oscar tried to jump out of the water to bite her. She rang me to tell me when I was driving home, it was sad for the lobster but her reaction was funny

It sounds like it was a surprise for everybody - including the lobster!

Keith!!! Welcome to R2R!
OK, now we have to see the tank. Are you going to start a build thread so that we all can follow along? Looking forward to it... ;)

Will setup a build thread over the weekend. I’m aiming to go with minimal or no water changes. I’m a research scientist so i am hoping to be able to manage this. I am hoping my background in biology and science will help Fingers crossed

Thanks everyone, you are all so friendly. Being in the U.K. and on a totally different time zone it’s already the early hours of Saturday morning. So I’ll check in again tomorrow and try to make a start on my build thread.
