Hi everyone My 1st marine tank must of been around 13 years ago, it was a second hand boyu 125 and not using the internet much then made some really dumb butt mistakes, the one that’s really drilled into my head from that tank is just dumping around seven snails in (1st cuc) no acclimation needless to say they didn’t live long.
Over the years I’ve had a few in between a loverly 4 foot sumped tank but due to financial situations had to get rid. But that must of been 8/9 years ago and even then I was missing some major information (like the importance of alk) plus I’m sure nitrates to 30ppm was acceptable, anyhow explains why I couldn’t keep sps. After a long gap (kept nsw inbetween) I came bake to tropical marine as that’s where my real passion lies, after an incredible amount of reading and the brs videos (which I love) I slowly set up a old Red Sea max 250. I still struggle with many things as there’s so much to learn but research, research, research before making any changes and when I do there are slow. (No more lobbing in snails) the main issue I have at present is lighting, I don’t know what to do for the best. It’s a six t5 system at present I have 4 blue led t5 and two white led 5 I did have 3 of each but change a white out for a blue hoping for better spectrum and more par for corals but par has dropped and two weeks on sps are fading one in particular is brown on its highest part with polyps in where it’s browned? So two days ago I’ve moved it up higher to see if that makes a difference. (Nothing yet but I’ll leave it a couple weeks) so now I’m thinking do I go back to 50/50 or do I need even more ratio of whites to keep sps. Bear in mind as I understand it the marine whites are more in the blue spectrum. Insights would be really welcome as I’m not sure what todo.

Welcome :) :) !! For whats it worth.....I don't acclimate any snails other than temperature and they do fine so don't beat yourself up too bad. I would start by posting your water parameters so everyone can get a better idea of what is going on. Any change in lighting spectrum (without acclimation) can also cause issues.

So here’s what’s been going parameter wise after abit off product swap I’m now setting in with the Red Sea care program. I’m trying to hold steady with alk 8, cal 430 and mag 1280. Had a bit of a mag drop this week as my Red Sea foundation c got lost in the post. I did have a backup seachem one but for some reason I completely forgot about it last week (my bad and since testing yesterday I’ve started to correct that. You will also notice I had a few weeks ago an increase in phosphate ( what happened was)
My husband got me a skinny butt blue cheek goby that wasn’t eating (he thought smaller was better cus it could grow in my tank) well it took a week or two of lacing the bottom of tank (turning off flow) with food to get him to start realising it was edible (now he’s doing great) however this increase the phosphate so I added some extra rowa in to the reactor and after a week in had hardly gone down so I thought it had exspired or wasn’t enough so I replaced the whole lot, (I’d been reluctant to do this as I was worried it would take all phosphate out) well sure enough it did but it took 2/3 weeks todo so (I learned rowa works slower than I expected) reactor has been off scince but now nitrate is rising I’ve (as of Saturday increased nopox to recommend dose for levels and now just waiting for a decrease. I did also a 20/ water change Saturday. I test alk every day and compensate for and changes in that. I’m hoping now I’m on the red sea program I can get things really nice and steady
Thanks for the welcome guys oh thank is still a baby 7 months old
