Hello from Cornwall

So here’s what’s been going parameter wise after abit off product swap I’m now setting in with the Red Sea care program. I’m trying to hold steady with alk 8, cal 430 and mag 1280. Had a bit of a mag drop this week as my Red Sea foundation c got lost in the post. I did have a backup seachem one but for some reason I completely forgot about it last week (my bad and since testing yesterday I’ve started to correct that. You will also notice I had a few weeks ago an increase in phosphate ( what happened was)
My husband got me a skinny butt blue cheek goby that wasn’t eating (he thought smaller was better cus it could grow in my tank) well it took a week or two of lacing the bottom of tank (turning off flow) with food to get him to start realising it was edible (now he’s doing great) however this increase the phosphate so I added some extra rowa in to the reactor and after a week in had hardly gone down so I thought it had exspired or wasn’t enough so I replaced the whole lot, (I’d been reluctant to do this as I was worried it would take all phosphate out) well sure enough it did but it took 2/3 weeks todo so (I learned rowa works slower than I expected) reactor has been off scince but now nitrate is rising I’ve (as of Saturday increased nopox to recommend dose for levels and now just waiting for a decrease. I did also a 20/ water change Saturday. I test alk every day and compensate for and changes in that. I’m hoping now I’m on the red sea program I can get things really nice and steady
Thanks for the welcome guys oh thank is still a baby 7 months old

Sounds like you got a pretty good handle on parameters (along with everything else) I would leave everything as is and continue the course trying to keep everything as stable as possible......the SPS are probably just adjusting to the change in lighting and the nutrient levels bouncing around. You can keep them successfully in either of your bulb configurations so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

Welcome to the R2R community and we’re glad you joined us !!

hi welcome to the reef going to love it here!!
lots of fun/info/fun/help/fun....

Welcome to Reef2Reef. I wouldn’t use NoPOx right now. Without PO4 available you will be building up a surplus of Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) and that’s super hard on your corals. I personally wouldn’t worry about 5 ppm of NO3 being present and I would let my PO4 come up. I think you’ll likely find that the low phosphates is why your corals are becoming pale and not your lighting. Once your phosphates rise if they are still pale then I’d think about addressing the lighting issue. :).

Are you anywhere near Port Isaac? (Sorry, I’m a Doc Martin fan). Cornwall looks like a beautiful area.
