Hey Folks,

Just signed up and thought I would say Hello. My name is Dave and I have had reef aquariums for over 25 years. I have had salt water aquariums for 30+ years. My current tank is a 400g Display Tank. Thanks to the lovely climate in Southern Cal, all my equipment is located outside the house. This is includes a 250g outdoor sump and frag tank lit by the sun. Utility bills in So Cal are pricey, so I tried to be as efficient as possible in my tank build. My 2 sumps, Display tank and 460g geothermal chiller all run off a single Dart pump, with a heavy dose of gravity feed. For filtration I have over 1000lbs of live rock, a Deltec skimmer, and a 5' fluidized sand filter. I am a proponent of the use of Ozone. In my display tank I have (5) Tunze 6200 hidden in the rock work, and I supplement that with a 30g surge tank on a second story balcony. My reef was a fish tank for the past few years and I just started rebuilding my coral collection since the beginning of 2012. So nothing is very mature in the tank at this time.

These videos are 2 weeks old. I am in the process of converting my surge tank from a Silent Carlson Surge to a Bubble Free Motorized Ball Valve surge. So I shot this video of the old surge.

Welcome Dave. We'd love to see pics of your setup. It sounds quite unique.

Welcome to R2R Dave!

We appreciate your membership and wow great tank!

Thanks for joining and please make sure and post often!

Wonderful Tank! Welcome to R2R!!! How many yellow tangs do you have??? lol

Tank already looks great, cant wait to see it grown out.

Welcome to R2R...love the surge by the way...that will be done on my next large tank. I am fine with the bubbles so long as they disperse right after the surge.

What do all your fish think of the surge?

Good to see you on R2R Dave. That surge is awesome. I'm very interested in the new version and how well it will function vs the Carlson.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

My tang collection includes 9 yellow tangs, 1 purple tang, 2 blue tangs, 1 achilles tang (ich free) and 1 mimic tang.

Other fish include pair of mature Belus Angels, 1 tiny 1" Female Belus Angel, Pair of Golden Angels, Goldflake Angel, Pair of Blue Velvet Wrasses, Yellow Coris Wrasse, Trio of Female Lubbock's Wrasse, 4 percula clowns, 2 black percula clowns, Pair of Frimandi, Pair of Springeri, Strawberry Pseudo, Skunk Pseudo, Bicolor Pseudo, Pair of Royal Grammas, Pair of Firefish, Pair of Tailspot Blennies, Bicolor Blenny, Lawnmower Blenny, 2 blue damsels, 2 stegassi damsels, 6 kupang damsels, 2 yellow chromis, a purple /yellow damsel, 2 blue coral chromis, 6 Bangai cardinals, pair of Green Mandarins, a target mandarin and a pair of Dragon faced Pipefish.

The fish seem to enjoy the surge. In the past I have kept numerous pipefish in the tank as well as seahorses and even the seahorses would come out to ride the surge wave.

Wow! What an awesome tank! I love that you have so many fish and cant wait to see more pics too..

What a gorgeous tank you have there!! Welcome to R2R!! We hope you enjoy your stay!!
