I just found this site and I'm pretty excited to try and soak up some knowledge/experience from you guys and gals. The reason I came here is because my tank is pathetic. It's a 3 year old 75G reef aquarium and I really would love for it to look amazing and be a showpiece. Part of the problem is that all my equipment is HOB because a sump scares me and still does. Well, that and my tank wasn't drilled and can't be as far as I know.
I spent a lot of money on my lights, but because they are so highly programmable I feel like I am making mistakes. My coral growth is extremely slow. For example I have a frogspawn frag that is two years old and I bought it with one head. It only has two heads after two years! I've killed a hammer coral, mushroom coral (which is the ultimate beginner coral) and zoas of all types. My frogspawn looks great, but my candy cane and xenia look and do the best. (Sorry if I spelled any of these wrong) Those are the only 3 types I have in there as of now.
I think my problem may be flow, but I can never seem to get it right. How do tanks packed with coral get the flow right for all those different coral? It may be my powerheads, but I have no idea. I don't want to try any new types of coral because I am afraid of killing more, but I would be willing to try anyways.
I'm willing to put some money into it a little at a time, but in a few years I am going to have a 400G built into my house that we will have built, and I will have a fish room and all. It will make everything easier for me since I weak because of medical problems. I am also trying to upgrade my freshwater tank so my money will be going there but I know my tank isn't going to fix itself for free lol
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, I feel like a complete newbie even though I feel like I have done this for a while and learned next to nothing. I know to help you will need more information. I will try and tell you everything I know, any help would be greatly appreciated!
