I just found this site and I'm pretty excited to try and soak up some knowledge/experience from you guys and gals. The reason I came here is because my tank is pathetic. It's a 3 year old 75G reef aquarium and I really would love for it to look amazing and be a showpiece. Part of the problem is that all my equipment is HOB because a sump scares me and still does. Well, that and my tank wasn't drilled and can't be as far as I know.

I spent a lot of money on my lights, but because they are so highly programmable I feel like I am making mistakes. My coral growth is extremely slow. For example I have a frogspawn frag that is two years old and I bought it with one head. It only has two heads after two years! I've killed a hammer coral, mushroom coral (which is the ultimate beginner coral) and zoas of all types. My frogspawn looks great, but my candy cane and xenia look and do the best. (Sorry if I spelled any of these wrong) Those are the only 3 types I have in there as of now.

I think my problem may be flow, but I can never seem to get it right. How do tanks packed with coral get the flow right for all those different coral? It may be my powerheads, but I have no idea. I don't want to try any new types of coral because I am afraid of killing more, but I would be willing to try anyways.

I'm willing to put some money into it a little at a time, but in a few years I am going to have a 400G built into my house that we will have built, and I will have a fish room and all. It will make everything easier for me since I weak because of medical problems. I am also trying to upgrade my freshwater tank so my money will be going there but I know my tank isn't going to fix itself for free lol

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, I feel like a complete newbie even though I feel like I have done this for a while and learned next to nothing. I know to help you will need more information. I will try and tell you everything I know, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to R2R! You'll get tons of help here. Pictures are always great along with your water parameters Calcium, Magnisium, Alk ect. What fish do you have? Equipment?

Welcome. :-)

What type of lighting? If not LED how old are the bulbs?

Brand of power head and gallons/hour?

Welcome home! You will love it here!

Welcome to R2R;)

Welcome!!!!

I'm embarrassed about the pic but I will pull one up when I get off of work. lol I will also run tests to tell you my water parameters. Thank you for all the welcomes everyone!

I have 3 SUNSUN JVP Series Submersible Circulation Powerhead Pumps they are 530 GPH. My protein skimmer is Reef Octopus BH1000 maybe? I know it's the 1000 that's the HOB, but I forgot -_- My lights are the Radion XR30's (maybe they are the 15's? I will have to check that also) and there are two of them. My filtration is just a Marineland one that has the little wheels that turn. I'm so technical lol

Stock is 4 Osc. Clowns 2 black and 2 standard "Nemo" orange, one tiny Blue Green Chromis, 1 Bangaii Cardinal, 1 Diamond Watchman Goby and that is it. Pretty boring. ha ha

Welcome to R2R!
Sounds like a chemistry issue if your easy corals are not making it.
I would look into your ALK , temp, available nutrients (no3 and po4)
Is the skimmer producing well? High DOC's are not good also.

I'm sorry to sound stupid, but I have no idea how to test nutrients like you listed or what DOC's are. The skimmer is pretty great, I have to clean it about every 4 days. I have to feed more heavily than I should to make sure my goby doesn't starve.

Anyone have any ideas or should I start a more specific thread?
