Hello all, Happy Thanksgiving. I picked up a Blonde Naso, Medium size, was eating at the fish store, but won't eat nothing here. Have tried almost everything & really don't want to lose this guy.
Other Fish in my 220 Sps tank:
1-Coral Beauty
1-Copperband Butterfly
2-Pajama Cardinals
2-Black & White Ocellaris
1-Green Mandarin
1-Scopas Tang
1-Leopard Wrasse
1-Yellow Wrasse
I know or have read that you should have either 1-3 of the same type fish, if this will cure it, I will pick up a Yellow tang or whatever my LFS has instock. But please, someone tell me what food to try. Have tried a lot of different foods including the Mysis that the store was feeding him, no luck. Any help.

Thanks & Happy Reefing

Unfortunately, this is not uncommon with Naso tangs. Don't add other tangs to cure this, that won't help. Treat for internal parasites, naso tangs are susceptible to them. He should start to eat the foods you are providing soon enough.

Well I sure hope so. Going on day 4 today. I forgot to put in my thread, I do use Garlic & Vitamins mixed in my food. Trying to entice him to eat.

I agree with Mil. Police, I am not sure of treatment options either, thought the garlic & Vitamins should be good enough??

Have you seen any white stringy poop coming from the fish? Did you QT him at all before adding to the display? Have you seen any scratching/flashing or twitching?

You'll need Metro for internal parasites. it can be fed to the fish or dosed to the water. I dont like saying you can dose the water in your display, so I'll recommend a QT for that.

No I have not noticed any white stringy poop, he is not eating, so really don't see him pooping at all. Yes I did QT him for a day.
Metro, have to look that up, sure my LFS does not carry it.
Thanks

Sorry, I use Larry's food. All my other fish love it!!

Does metro work best when dosed to water or fed?

If your going to QT but not prophylactic treat, then keep him in there for at least 2 weeks. this will give you time to observe for parasites and other issues like this one. That way you avoid the stress of netting him back out to treat, and you also avoid introducing new diseases to your display stock.
No scratching or flashing?

You can try Prazi as well, but that doesn't treat ALL internal parasites.

Fed. Focus will bind it to the food if your concerned about it being reef safe. I always suggest airing on the side of caution.

No, no flashing or scratching at all. Just swims from side to side of the tank.
I looked up the Metro, might be able to pick some up at Petco, or a place like that, instead of a fish store.

Should be easily available to you. Like i said, if not then Prazipro will be and it may work, just as comprehensively.

Well after doing some looking around online, I guess I was wrong about Petco, other than ordering it online, could you tell me places that might carry either??

Nori is the key. Blonde naso can be VERY cryptic. I have one that I have had for about a year who still hates my guts. She does NOT eat when she can see me, ever. She is fat as a whale because of nori and that I walk away after I feed. But yes I agree adding more tangs would not help your case, it may further stress her. This only helps with reducing the potential for targeted aggression.

Red nori is quite an asset, but go to the grocer or LFS and get whatever nori you can.

I soak my foods in garlic guard and selcon to entice eating and increase nutrition, respectively as well.

Live blackworms and Live Brine will get nearly any fish eating. Blackworms are my blonde naso cow's favorite food. She will eat dozens at a time!

You could just order it online and while it's in route try 3Ford's suggestions. I'm not totally on board with this being worms yet. If he was eating and still losing weight, then yeah. It's a good med to have on hand, I'm just not convinced this is your problem.

Well of course I have no idea if she/he eats when I'm away from the tank. As for using Nori, I have tried that, not the red kind, but the regular green, but the problem with that is, all my other fish love it, so I can put some in my tank, but if I watch, it never eats it, if I don't it is gone in just minutes as all my other fish tear it up. So I don't know if the naso gets any or not??I also must agree with you Melypr1985, I am not sure that is the problem, although I don't have a problem trying this, but just not 100% sure that is the problem??

Plus 3FordFamily, I'm not sure I can get "Live Blackworms or even Live Brine" not sure of anyplace that sells those around here.
