Girlfriend went to check her red sea 170 to get ready for water change. She smelled burned electrical. Noticed her skimmer was off. She immediately pulled it and we found this on disassembly. It's a curve 5. She's doing a 18 gallon water change now, that's all the salt we have mixed and heated. I have a new simplicity 120dc that's going in for now. We refreshed the carbon and added a few bags, maybe half a 1000 gram jug of red sea carbon.

Will the tank crash? Anything else I should do? I don't have cuprisorb or whatever and no lfs. So I'd have to order.

Carbon should do the trick. Water change will help too. Seriously doubt a crash.
Did you get the skimmer new? If so, I would call Seaside Aquatics in Anaheim. They are the North America distributor for Bubble Maggus.
You can PM me for their number if necessary

I would definitely order some cuprisorb. I would also continue with the water changes as fast as you can make it. Like @ndrwater said, carbon will help also.

I had a algae scrubber light fall into my sump, completely blew up with a huge puff of smoke(i was sittin gon my couch so I saw it happen). Immediately unplugged it, changed out carbon, and did a 20% WC. Only thing that was affected, surprisingly enough the entire population of vermatid snails. Killed them suckers dead! No coral problems other then being PO'ed for a day or so, but no issues other then that.

No polypads local, no cuprisorb. I will order both. What kind of polypads? Petco only has for freshwater. That's the only lfs. Bubble magus was used when we got it with a 60 cube we were going to reseal. Probably a victim of vinegar cleaning?

I will pull my nano carbon bag and refresh it and stick it in the 170. I will use matrix carbon to switch it up. Will purigen help?

POLYBIO Poly Filter PAD 4 X 8

I suspect something got sucked into the intake or the impeller swelled up and seized to cause that.

Carbon is a must and take/send pics to manufacturer

Ok, ordered polypads and cuprisorb. Amazon won't have them to me till Wednesday at the soonest. Polypads are spendy, are they more than just polyester filter media?

That looks like what we ordered. At Petco now, will chemipure do anything until my polypads and cuprisorb arrive?
