Thanks for the help everyone

If I did a hurbi I would need to hard pip a line on side of my tank. I can but I’ll try this for a bit first
Don’t be afraid of moving your tank. When I added my hybrid fixture I hard mounted it to my stand after the tank was running for 3 months. I was super nervous doing it, but moving it was actually the easiest part. Drain half way, inch each side out a little bit, it really isn’t to bad.

I got 160lbs of dry rock that’s wet with sand. Sump full. I’ll pass ;) thanks tho

I’ll stop by later

Morning!

Ok, I opened my gate all the way open last night. The only way to stop the surge of water is to have my return pump on power 1/5. That’s Eco mode.

It’s still running nice but it’s slower. Is this a good thing then? My pump was rated for 1050gph.

1/5 seems a bit slow but often power level 1 out of 5 isn't actually 20% power. 300-600 GPH is normal for a 1in drain so you may be about right.

When you say a surge are you speaking about a periodic rush of water or about a constant noise?

Surge is the periodic rush of water. The level goes high in the overflow then it rushes down to the sump. If I have it on level 2/5 it does it 3/5 a lot more 4-5/5 aggressive.

If I have it on 1/5 it’s slow and nice flow. I just hope it’s enough. Seems like it. Waters moving

I just realized I can't find your tank size anywhere in the thread but the biggest tank I have seen designed for a single 1in drain is a 150DD with 300 GPH through the overflow the entire tank volume passes through the filter twice an hour and 48 times a day. I think this is perfectly fine for filtration purposes. Many people push much more flow through their overflows than they need to.

I have a 120G marineland tank with 1 overflow. The manufacture website says:

The Corner-FloTM overflow and plumbing are rated for 700gph and this is not affected by the fact that the drain necks down to 1” as it enters into the bulkhead. Higher flow rates can be achieved, but 700gph has been established as the optimal flow rate.
