I don’t think it’s a parasite because the OP said it happened within 2 hrs after a water change. I think it’s the water change water. Probably got contaminated with something. That’s my first guess.

Maybe the salinity or temp is out of wack.

Your ammonia and nitrate readings are concerning and warrants an immediate water change. As for air stone, it will be of help and sporting goods or pet section of any walmart selling a pump and air stone combo for about 10 bucks.

What test kit(s) are you using?
Age of tank?
Are you using RODI water or tap water from the faucet

Tank temp: 77-79
ph 8.1-8.3
salinity 1.024-1.025
ammonia < .02
Nitrate <.20
Phos < .04

Aerosol- The gases/fumes can travel as much as 30 feet, so dont rule it out. To counter possibilty, add high grade carbon to the filtration to absorb any toxins.

I have a QT up by my sink currently. I told my wife be careful washing her hands so that no soap splashes into that tank.

A few days later I was looking at the fish swimming around and then about 10 minutes after that they were laying on the bottom gasping. Basically about to die in maybe 2-3 more minutes. I immediately got them into a small glass bowl, and thankfully they begin to perk up. I took that tank and drained it, rinsed it out well, filled it back up and transferred the fish back. They’re still good today. Waiting to go into the DT. :-)

I make my own rodi, i bought this tank and everything in from someone who couldnt care for it at this time. So about year with previous owner and 6 months with me. And i am currently using api test kit

Weird …
I’m curious what salt or is it because buying premixed salt water ?

ammonia is concerning as there should be 0 zero .
But depending on the test kit used .
spraying Lysol could contribute to the issue .
I do not let anyone spray anything , burn candles

the dog farts are the only thing I can’t control from being airborne

I used whatever brand the previous owner was using. It was in a clear bag and didnt have a brand on it. But its running out so im probably gonna go with fritz promix after this

This is not ammonia, about fifty thousand pages exist on Google of full running reef tanks at .25 it’s the most common api reading ever reported that everyone in this thread doing troubleshoots has seen well before even though here that isn’t being recalled, to fit a timing issue

disease or the spray

and if no quarantine for the setup and the setup is under eight months old, disease takes the lead. We always get disease expressed in non prepped tanks tied to a feeding event or a water change or a clean up crew entered or a candle nearby or a wall recently painted - there’s always things happening near a reef tank when disease hits

when someone in reefing states .25 that equals .025 in nh3 which isn’t lethal, and on seneye would actually be .002/ rule out ammonia in all post cycle troubleshoots

find one that is easily accessible ,
Works for you and your budget .
Something to consider …
Find one that’s within the parameter you plan on maintaining .
example : if you want 7.5 dkh alk find a salt that mixes to that .

I give the Lysol a 10% chance of being the issue maybe lower

reason why: no similar losses on the entire board

how many disease losses are there though

I once killed every fish in a freshwater tank at once by spraying new formula sprayway glass cleaner directly on the tank. Old formula didn’t do that…it’s why I didn’t rate the Lysol at 1% or zero

I have two clown fish, 1 cleaner shrimp, and 1 red scooter blenny. All are down in the sandbed and breathing rapidly. Even the little crabs arent really moving. I just did a water change two hours ago and i took a nap and i woke up and everyone was not moving and breathing hard. Please help, im not sure what is wrong

Ph: 8-8.4
Ammonia: 0-0.25
nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 20-40
Salinity: 1.025

*this was the same levels before water change*

I added a clear acrylic breeder for my anemone about 1 week ago, and i added a fake levitating rock for coral frags about 1 week ago.
I have corals in the tank as well but they are open and fine.* i do have two dead corals in tank i have not removed*

not sure what happened but i did nothing different with the water change so Im not sure what to do.
1. Recheck your tests. (There would be a huge difference in toxic 'free ammonia' - between pH 8 and 8.4.
2. Salinity changes?
3. did you mix your salt according to directions i.e. some require overnight mixing.

The fact that corals 'look good' kind of mitigate against an ammonia problem to a DEGREE - but corals can also use ammonia. Did you make sure your RODI water was ok - ie. no chloramines etc.

In any case - 'something' from your water change did something. Did you stir up your sand? etc - Could it be oxygen (low). Hope things start to turn around

Pointing your power heads up so the water breaks at the surface will increase the oxygen available in your tank. Your fish could be experiencing ammonia burns on their gills making it difficult to breath.
Yes get extra oxygen in there ASAP

Have the power head upwards to make an oxygen flow is helping, the fosh are slowing the ir breathing and more active. But i will still be doing another water change and replacing the carbon bag. Hopefully that will do the trick. I also removed all the new things i recently added a week ago. Frag rock is out as well as the breeder cage
