I thought so too! I only have 1 cardinal fish I don't have a pair... maybe a female with unfertilized eggs?
Yes, but I thought it was only the males that hold eggs in their mouth....

Do you know where he was collected? Though it is becoming increasingly rare, cyanide collection still occurs in some areas. Cyanide collected fish often appear to be very healthy, eat well, have very strong colors, etc., then suddenly keel over. I have read that it is still a problem in Indonesia, but I do not know how widespread it is; there has been a strong effort to phase it out entirely.Bought this guy about 10 days ago and been doing great eating like a champ. Found him upside down at the bottom of the tank today trying to wedge himself in between rocks. He isn't breathing fast. I think it could be a swim bladder problem.
All other fish are doing great. Water parameters are great.
Any ideas would be awesome!

Well she swallowed them all about an hour after she delivered them. Seems females will hold them for a little while according to other posts in my other thread in the fish breeding forum.Yes, but I thought it was only the males that hold eggs in their mouth....
