I m new in marine. Pls help me. Last week 2 of my fishes have white spot all over the body. So last 2 days I went over to a marine farm to ask for some advise . He told me its ICH. Ok fine . Intro me with copper and tell me pour copper according to temp tank that is 1ft. Ok I did as I was told . My main tank 2ft I washed up all stuffs with filter sea water. Sand , filter , Live rock ...... was told again to pour copper to main tank with half dosage. Main tank with live sand, Live rock. He said ok to pour copper. 1ft temp tank smelly yesterday night and 2 fish dead. Ask the marine staff Again so how now. Ask me put some fishes back to main tank as 1ft tank poison now. Ok pour back main tank. This morning 7 fishes dead !!!! How now ?

Whenever your marine fish catch it the easy way of getting rid of it is to do a freshwater dunk they fall right off and you also want to quarantine them mix up fresh salt water in a separate tank make sure it's oxygenated and make sure you pour some dechlorinator or if not seed to make it safe if the spots are not removed the first two days try again

Is anything still alive? How many and what type of fish did you have to start? How are your display tank (main) and hospital tank (temp) set up? There are a number of reasons they may have died from the scenario you've given, not limited to the Ich. It sounds like a lot of fish in a small tank. Can you post any photos and also list your water parameters?

And I should add, sorry to hear of your fish loss. It's always sad to read when people lose one fish, let alone 9.

I'm so sorry you are going through this!

Unfortunately, you got incomplete advice. Yes, you should use copper to treat ich but you need to do it carefully. You should never use copper in your main display tank as it will kill invertebrates and coral. You should use copper to treat fish in a separate tank that has no rock or sand.
You also need to know exactly what type of copper product you are using and be very careful how much you add. Copper is a poison. You need to add enough to kill the ich but not so much that it kills the fish. When using copper you should gradually add it over several days so the fish can adjust.

Do you have any fish that survived so far?

Die another 2 more and Now I left with 3 fishes. What should I do ? Now main tank have to restart again ? I have been restarting for the 3rd time.

Yes he gave me wrong advise. I have told him that my main tank has live rock, sand, slug , snail and hermit crab but He told me its ok. As long as no coral, I can pour copper. In the end, now my tank is almost empty . [emoji24]

I'm so sorry. I wish I had better news for you. It is unlikely you will ever be able to use that live rock or your sand again in a tank that has inverts.

Do you have any way to get your fish into water that hasn't been treated with copper?

It would be helpful to know what copper product you added, how much you added, and your total system water volume. Since you still have some fish that are alive let's get some more help from others to see if they have any advice.

3 fishes alive only. All my triggerfishes and stone fish gone. Now tank almost empty [emoji30]

I have tried the freshwater last few days for soaking my clown triggerfish first only 2 min but it dead instantly. [emoji21]

I'm so sorry. I wish I had better news for you. It is unlikely you will ever be able to use that live rock or your sand again in a tank that has inverts.

It would be helpful to know what copper product you added, how much you added, and your total system water volume. Since you still have some fish that are alive let's get some more help from others to see if they have any advice.

Unfortunately, it is probable. Copper will be absorbed by your rocks and sand. You can change out your water but the copper will continue to leach out of your rocks into your new water. When you get the copper level low enough you can keep fish in the tank again. If you ever want corals, snails, or other inverts your best path is to throw away your rock and sand and start over.
There is one option that I would consider risky but I want to make sure I provide the information. You might be able to use a copper absorption product like Cuprisorb. You will need to make sure you always have it in your tank and replace it regularly if you decide to go this route. If you have inverts in your tank and you don't change it out regularly, the copper will come back and kill them.

We should tag randy or the others to see how effective copper removal is. there's a lot of ways to do it and I have heard of it being done successfully. @Paul B might have some insights, Im sure hes thrown more than a few pennies in his tank and he stil has his first rock

This is a pretty solid case of bad advice. Copper should be dosed according to the gallons of the tank not the length. You'll also want to be sure to put the fish in a separate tank with no sand, rocks or other inverts. Do you have any pictures of the remaining fish?
