Help I need to keep tank outside for new floors

It will be 81 the hottest outside. Do you think I could over heat my tank keeping it outside for the day? I have an inkbird to keep my heater from cooking my fish.

It’s 20 gallons. They are jack hammering up the tile so the dust would be toxic in my opinion inside

Can you cover the tank? Which may be easier then moving it and better for the tank inhabitants. You can take a tarp and cover it. Just make sure it completely covered and it will keep all the dust out.

Do you have a garage or basement that isn’t being done? I think it would be better then outside. But I’d invest in a cooling fan beforehand if it’s going to be hot and if you absolutely have to move it outside. How long would it be outside for? You could also move the inhabitants out of the tank and put them in someone else’s tank temporarily if that’s an option.

But that’s indoors and is more controlled. I know there’s a heat wave right now in many places. My concern is outside is unpredictable.

I definitely think you shouldn’t ever put it outside. There’s too many variables especially with the current heat wave in a lot of places. Do you have a local fish store near you? Maybe try calling around to see if someone will hold them for you. You could also take them out of the tank and put them in a cooler bag (like how fish and corals are shipped). I think the best option would be to remove the inhabitants from the tank and put them individual bags in a cooler bag with lots of air as they may often spend days in these conditions while being shipped as an alternative to putting them outside.

So you wouldn’t think an inkbird would be enough? It shuts off my heater if a temperature goes over what I have set in the tank. The max for the day shows 82. My tank is 78 most of the time.

For instance what if it rains and wouldn’t it be easier to just move the tank inside/outside empty vs having to set it back up etc? I’d just drain the tank a little to move it and put everyone in little bags with lots of air in a cooler then add everyone back in when the tank is moved back. As opposed to setting it up outside for less than a day and then moving it back in.

I don’t have an air pump to pump a bag of air with the fish. Also wouldn’t it cause a tank crash if I let the tank dry out? My tanks been running for a year. Rain isn’t in the forecast either. Most of my equipment is in the stand. I wouldn’t run my lights outside I would keep it dark around the tank for the day maybe tarp

My garage is separate building no outlets and it’s 2x hotter in the garage then outside

No don’t let it dry out. Drain it enough to move it. Leaving enough water in the chambers and on the sand bed to keep the bacteria alive. You could put them in a vented container too.

I think I would only be moving 10 gallons of water because of rocks and equipment. It should be easy to move. I am worried about heat, and I am worried if i stress everything too much moving 2x in same day.

You will stress them out regardless that’s just what happens when a tank gets moved or you buy a new fish. When you move the tank though don’t leave them in it.
