Help identifying a disease

He is currently in a mix of copper and metroplex. I have ruby reef rally and paraguard on hand. I cannot obtain formalin.

Give him a 90 min bath using Rally. And add Kanaplex and/or Furan-2 to his QT to address the possibility of a secondary infection.

I prepped the bath but when I went to take him out, I lifted the decoration he was hiding under and he had died.

I wanted to post pictures of the up close end result - sorry - i know this is grim. I don't know if this is brooklynella or something else, but I'd appreciate everyone taking a closer look keeping in mind that my female triggerfish has the same issue, though nowhere close to this degree.

He had patches of scales that were completely gone. Within them, you can see tiny streaks of red. There was one patch where the skin looked like it was slothing. No Mucus layer. No indication of white spot or velvet. His fins were frayed.

It looks bacterial to me. A skin scrape followed by microscopic examination would confirm it.

Very sorry for your loss. A few years back on the "other" reefing forum, there was a post about a similar affliction, but no conclusion was ever reached about the cause.

Agree, sorry for your loss :(

^^ Agree; he probably had brook or velvet, but a secondary bacterial infection is what finished him off. Sorry for your loss. :(

Okay, so, if it is bacterial.... the female triggerfish is showing the same signs. I can't get her out of the display tank, so she needs to be treated in tank.

For the past few weeks, she's been fed metroplex/kanaplex (first week) and metro/neoplex (2nd week). Her condition has remained the same. About a month ago, I tried rally in the tank. I'd also tried melafix previous to that. Nothing changed their condition.

Since none of these seem to be helping, what would you recommend I try? It would need to be something I can add into the food. I know there are gram positive and gram negative bacterias, so I guess I need something that is opposite of what I'm using. Any ideas?

@CanadianReefer You need to get her into QT ASAP and do the following:
  1. 90 min Rally bath (before going into QT)
  2. Treat with Kanaplex + Furan-2 + Metroplex in the QT
Or you can use Neoplex + Furan-2 + Metroplex instead.

Is feeding her the drugs not as effective? I've tried many times to get her out, but to no avail...
