Hello friends, i own a 100g reef tank and my eyes went on a Nyos protein skimmer. Which i think i made a good decision.
Which Nyos protein skimmer suits my tank 120,160, or 220 version? I need your suggestions before I buy it and I need in words saying "I need the one that really strips off water" and efficient, thank you

I used to have Nyos 120 (Red Sea Reefer 250), switched to Red Sea RSK300, never looked back. Check my build thread below for details. Tons of things better in RSK than Nyos.

I have a 180 gallon tank with a nyos 160 and I wish I would have gone bigger so I would say go with the 160. I have a somewhat heavy bioload and I have to empty my cup too often.

You hit me exactly, that's my confusion which to choose! From my experience, I already eliminated the 120. I am looking between Nyos 160 or 220. I think 220 is better for my 100g reef tank? How do you find Nyos as protein skimmer? Does it collect sludge in the cup?

It collects everything, I really doubt you would need the 220. I get by fine with the 160 I just wish it had a larger cup because I'm lazy and don't want to empty and clean it as much as I do. I think you'll be well served by the 160.

My problem is that I don't have a good skimmer, by months my nitrates and phosphates exploded. Now I don't want to do another mistake!! That's why I am so confused. Now to take off the nitrates and phosphates by carbon dosing I really need a powerful skimmer.

If you're set on the nyos and worried the 160 won't be big enough go with the 220. Worst case scenario, you find that it's too big, we could always swap. Lol

I use the 160 on my approximate 120/125g setup and its pretty perfect. I used the 120 from my prior build for the first 6 months or so but it was too small.

I obviously like the skimmer as I chose to stick with it when I upgraded however if I were buying new again I would be looking at either a Deltec DC or the newer Maxspect dual pump model.

Get a skimmate locker from Avast. They're amazing, well worth it.

For what it's worth, swapped out my Nyos for a new Red Sea. Just never got it dialed in.

If you're interested in a 220 that was run for about a month, let me know!

If you said Nyos 160 works better for me, i will go to 160, even the price is cheaper.

Thank you for your suggestion. What Deltec do you look for, i mean which model number?

Thank you, I will take a look at Avast. Now I'm getting more confused.

I’d look at the 1000i

Yes, I saw that model, but they told me by the time it will give me trouble with the controller.

Looking in to the locker now. If you're just sitting on the 220 pm me and maybe we can work something out.

What did you find between RSK300 and Nyos? Can you please explain to me?

my build thread has more details on this. In summary,RSK has a larger chamber and larger collection cup. the foam level is more stable. It has a drain line, so you rarely have to remove the cup to empty. It has a bottle neck cleaner. In summary, I find RSK head and shoulders above. Very happy with mine. The only issue some had is the air chamber can be too noisy. I designed and printed a new matching one, takes care of that issue. PM if you need help with that (assuming you go RSK route).
