Help me choose Nyos protein skimmer

my build thread has more details on this. In summary,RSK has a larger chamber and larger collection cup. the foam level is more stable. It has a drain line, so you rarely have to remove the cup to empty. It has a bottle neck cleaner. In summary, I find RSK head and shoulders above. Very happy with mine. The only issue some had is the air chamber can be too noisy. I designed and printed a new matching one, takes care of that issue. PM if you need help with that (assuming you go RSK route).

That is a good, quick write up but didn't your 160 have a drain line? Mine has a drain line that is capped with a piece of black plastic/rubber.

Thank you for your informative information. I watched your build thread congratulations for your stunning setup build it is really professional. To tell you the truth RSK300 is more easy for me to buy it because we have in my country and for the nyos I have to buy it from eBay or Amazon + nearly I have to add 100 us dollars more for shipping plus the price.

Hello friends, i own a 100g reef tank and my eyes went on a Nyos protein skimmer. Which i think i made a good decision.
Which Nyos protein skimmer suits my tank 120,160, or 220 version? I need your suggestions before I buy it and I need in words saying "I need the one that really strips off water" and efficient, thank you

The nyos is a great skimmer, only has one flaw, that flaw is the pump. I have the 160 and have to blow air in the intake line sometimes during restart to get it to start.

Thank you for been interested in my problem. In my 9 years of reefing I learned that everything has sometimes has a hidden defect. This is my first time that I heard about this defect on Nyos and I thank you for sharing with me your experience. I want to know something from you, do you find your Nyos 160 really effective on skimming as they say ? And what's the volume of your tank ? Thank you.

I have never had that issue but I have had issues if the water level in my sump gets too high, aka feeding time. Sometime my nyos won't restart after I put my pumps in feed mode but all I have to do is lift the skimmer so the bottom gets air and it will start back up. I don't have to actually blow in to it.

mine was a 120. 120s dont have the drain line options.

I think it's about 90-100g. I have about 9 fish and feed on the heavy side, the skimmer has no problem keeping up.
My tank is SPS dominant and nutrients are low without use of carbon or gfo.

I think yes, from suggestions, from about 3 months of intensive research on the internet. Reviews from people etc. etc.......
I think I go for Nyos 160 for my 100g reef tank. Even I e-mail Nyos experts to help me choose the right size for my tank and they suggest me that 120 is enough, but when I told them my problem of high nitrates and phosphates due to my poor protein skimmer I have now, they told me that I can choose the Nyos 160 that is a little big for me but it's more powerful exporting nutrients and can resolve my problem easily. From my intensive research, I discovered that every skimmer has ups and downs and I am not saying that there are no better skimmers out there but from my point of view I always found that Nyos skimmers are very efficient and effective exporting nutrients. They have a good build. They are compact in sumps. I hope that I made a good decision

I can confirm the same problem with my 160, I would not buy it again..

I too have a 130.4 dx coming but went with the 120. I feel like I should have went to 160. Oh well I can always upgrade.
