a booster pump gets installed either pre RODI unit, or pre membrane, depending on what your psi is, and the booster pump you buy.
To test waste water ratio you time and measure the amount of water coming out as waste, and water coming out as product. Should be 4 to 1.
It is recommended not to exceed 80 psi into RODI unit. While over 80 will improve performance, fitting are not rated for more than 80.
While most manufacturers rate their units for minimum of 40 psi, the bigger the membrane, the more psi you need to have a well running unit that doesn’t need constant maintenance. As an example, brs 150 gpd unit recommends 65 psi. Any membrane, from any manufacturer, rates their membrane at like 60 psi. As an example, if you have a 50 gpd membrane and are running 60 psi, you should/will get 50 gpd. If that same 50 gpd membrane has 40 psi that gpd will be reduced, run higher and it will increase. On a 100gpd membrane the loss will be greater.

I’m getting the color changing cation, anion and mixed bed resins from BRS. When I was using just 2 canisters of the mixed bed, I would go through the first canister in about 500 gallons. Word of caution on the anion resin, the smell from it is really bad. My wife is sensitive to odors and certain ones like perfumes will give her a nasty migraine. The anion was the worst. She had the worst migraine in years. Next time I need to replace it, I need to do it outside. I thought the resin had gone bad. Nope that’s the way it smells. Nasty odor. I’m glad I switched to the 3 canister setup. I’m still early in my 2 tank, one sump setup. Total water in the system will be about 600 gallons. Once I’m through the first year, I will only be changing the anion maybe once a year. Not sure how long the others will last since they are not showing any change in color.
you don't want to run just two mixed bed back to back. mixed bed is used as a polishing stage (last), or the only di if the rodi only has one di canister. yes, it has a very fishy smell to it.
it's always more efficient to use less cartridges that are of a higher quality. so the next time you have to buy new di, i would look into just one spectrapure mega maxcap and one enduro di. they'll last longer than the three you're using and you'll save money.
I only use the DOW RO membranes. See image. This for the one I use on my drinking water RO setup. Membrane is rated for 150 psi.
membranes themselves can be rated up to 200 psi, but it's all the small plastic fittings that are rated for much lower.
dow has historically rated their membranes at 50psi. that's why their 75gpd is actually 90gpd when rated at 60psi.

Fishy smell is one thing, the anion was beyond fishy. My entire house was swamped with the smell.
At the rate I’m going, I can’t see how the other would be better. I’m 1500 gallons in on my 3 resins and the only one changing is the anion. To replace it costs me $13 or $14 dollars. If I have to do that once a year that’s a deal.
strange. i’ve never experienced that. sounds like it’s working well though. i’m on two years with both my di and 5+ years on my membrane.
i lost count. well into the thousands. i was one of the first to test their new mega maxcap and enduro di and i did chart their performance, but i don’t have that anymore.
