Anyone know if holidays like memorial day bring any sales on equipment? Wanting to nab a new powerhead but I have been going slow hoping it will go on sale soon.

eBay is running a 20% off, including pet supplies. I forget what you need, but I just picked up my new light. Problem is you have to spend $50, which I don't think you wanted to do.

EDIT: Also, hold off on buying a skimmer. I plan on upgrading my tank in the next few weeks. I have the tanks (40b/20l), pump, lights, just need the skimmer/overflow. If I do it, I can let my Aquaticlife 115 go for cheap. I've only had it setup for about 6 months, although I've owned it a year. I was just too lazy to set it up (hard to get the waterlevel perfect). It's not as hard as I thought, and now I think I should have done it earlier.

You'd want both the actinic and the 10k running for corals.

I run mine actinic for 9 hours, 10k for 5. 10k starts about 2 hours after and ends 1 hour before lights out. I actually get natural light on the tank about 1.5 hours after sunrise to about 2.5 hours after (about an hour total). But my lights don't turn on until about 2 hours after that span.

I went ahead and went for the SBReeflights Sprite box. So both that and the Tunze powerhead should be arriving soon. I am going to follow the youtube video they did on that light and retrofit it into the hood of the biocube 29 so I can still have a lid on it.

Ive got some clowns picked out for the tank. My local store is holding them for me currently until I can get them.

Being the first fish going into my tank. For acclimation should I just float the bag for a while and then dump them in? Seems like most people suggest against doing a drip acclimation.

Nice, let me know how the sprite works out, I was looking at that for a different tank.
Yes on the float, no on the dumping in part.
Float the bag for 30 minutes or so, then empty about half the water, and add the same amount from the tank. Repeat a couple times in 4-5 minute increments. Then, net and transfer.

I found a couple local coral I like for 5 and 10 bucks I am going to pick up and give a go. They are on plugs currently. Can I leave them on the plugs or should I take them off? I was planning on just shoving them into the dirt at first as I have no idea where to put them yet.

My Tunze 6045 just arrived so once I get that in the tank I assume I'm going to have a ton of flow. Should I turn the Tunze down quite a bit?

One is a hammer and one is some zoa's.

Since my flow is all based on the left side(if looking at it from the front.) I assume both of these coral should be on the right side? If you look back through my pics with the rock work in it. Is there anywhere you would suggest me to put these coral? Would I need to put one behind the rock on the right side to kinda act as a block from the flow.

Do I need to put the zoa's on a separate rock away from the main structure so they don't cover the whole thing? Or will they be fine on the plug? Will they cover the sand?

You can shove the plugs into holes in your rock and glue them if they don't lock in tight.
Yeah I would start with maybe 50%-60% and adjust further after you see how the tank/livestock respond.

I think your other questions come down to personal preference. I don't have corals so i'll let someone else field those ?'s

Got my new SBReeflight yesterday. Just finished modding my hood to hold it. Now to figure out what to set them at. And for how long! Right now I have the white channel at 30% and the blue channel at 20% on a timer from 11am-9pm.




My phone makes it look super blue....

Added a small frag of a hammer and a frag of zoa's last night when the lights were off. The zoas were all closed up last night but when the lights came on today they were all open and colorful. I assume that means that they don't hate life. How to tell if a hammer is doing alright?

I didn't realize how small Zoa's are. Are some zoa's smaller then others? Ive seen them in other tanks and they seemed quite a bit bigger. The small frag I got they were very tiny circles. Do they get bigger with time or are some species just smaller?

Also I am running my lights at 30% blue 10% white right now from 11-9. Think I should be closer to 12 hours or is 10 good? I am planning on up'n my light once a week I think by like 5% or something.

Speaking of salinity, my biggest advice would be investing in the jbj ATO, youll be surprised to see the evaporation.
